Abstract Painting: For Today's Contemporary Artist

This is a special and wonderful book for anyone who paints. So many ideas and techniques to inspire you.My husband and I are both artists and this book was purchased as a gift for him - but I'm reading it now! Also, it arrived in perfect condition.

This is a book published by the owner of an arts community center; the book highlights the work of artists at that center and uses them to explain various concepts in abstract art. It's a conceptual book, not about techniques, but I found it useful as a beginner artist.

I have been an mixed media artist for years. But lately I’ve been dabbling in pure abstract art. This book has a lot to offer and I read and look at it every day since I received it. I’m having so much fun. I recommend this book highly.

I am a retired educator so my approach to this is basically: What can I learn, how can I pass it on, does it offer good information, is it interesting.....I fell in love with this book and shared it with my senior art class in several sessions, with a painting project at the end of each section. I have been studying art composition and often look critically at my work and the students' in my class. I did not expect to get such a wonderful intro and master's class in composition. I view art much differently now.This is an easy read with lots of wonderful examples of each specific lesson. My students did a great job in their interpretations. Mine were not anything like artwork shown, but two were decent enough to keep.A truly inspirational book for all artists.

I absolutely loved this book. I found it so easy to understand and was filled with helpful techniques on how to either get started or improve your abstract art. I loved how it showed how to create a technique but also how to critique your own work and look for what went right or what went wrong. I think it’s a great resource for any artist. I’ve referred back to it many many times in creating my art.

I’ve painted for 15 years and bought this to spark my imagination (lots of paintings) along with an overview of Abstract Art fundamentals. Good book for all abstract artists that live looking at others work.

When I first received this book I wondered if it were worth keeping, it didn't seem very substantive. Having read through it, however, I find it really helpful that the author explains key principles and elements of abstract art -- each briefly and succinctly -- followed by examples to illustrate. The author just makes a point, shares examples and moves on. I found the economy and clarity really helpful.

I'm quite new to painting and particularly Abstract and have bought a few books expecting "This is the one!" each time but Kate's book actually got me to put paint to canvas. How good or bad they are is not important , it got me off my butt doing something, thanks Kate 👍
