Historical inaccuracies strange and inexplicable
While this show is very entertaining it sometimes veers quite far from the actual events. I'm not sure why this was done because the real story is every bit as exciting as this one.Examples of some of the more major inaccuracies follow.Paul Revere was captured and held as a precaution by the British fairly early in his ride to warn the "British are coming" so he never participated in the battle of Lexington and Concord and didn't even finish his ride.Another glaring and important piece of the Battles of Lexington and Concord is completely left out, the march back to Boston by the British troops. Many of the local militias were not able to get to Lexington and Concord in time to participate in the actions there, but they were in time to attack the retreating British column from behind trees and stone walls in Indian style fighting, most of the way back to Boston. They inflicted significant casualties, 19 Officers and 250 soldiers, on the British through this day long harassment. The British essentially had to be rescued by a following force. This event is skipped entirely.Bunker Hill was also very inaccurately presented. The role Paul Revere plays at Bunker Hill in the movie was actually Colonel William Prescott. Paul Revere was not present at the battle of Bunker Hill. He was there after it was over to identify Dr Warren's body by dentistry.Thomas Gage was not present at Bunker Hill either. He remained in Boston. Commander of the British forces at Bunker Hill was Major-General William Howe, with 2300 British soldiers.Since Gage was not present he certainly could not have killed Dr Warren as was portrayed. The initial cannonade of the redoubt never took place either because the British brought 6 pounder field pieces but 12 pound balls. The Patriots repulsed 2 separate assaults inflicting disastrous casualties, 1054, of which 89 were officers, on the British. The 3rd British assault succeeded because the defenders retreated when they ran out of ammunition. It's difficult to understand the reasons for the inaccuracies since some aspects were presented very accurately. Major Pitcairn, for example was present at Lexington and he was fatally wounded at Bunker Hill as the movie portrays.Bottom line, enjoy the program but Do Not learn your American History from it.UPDATE: watching episode 3 only confirms my opinion of this series as more fictional than factual.More astounding to me is the number of reviews praising the historical accuracy of this show. I can only presume that these reviews are from people who learned their early American history from other Hollywood productions. As further example of the "literary license" taken by the writers is the portrayal of Washington making a "backroom deal with Gage" allowing him to leave Boston unmolested. Nothing could be further from the truth. In actuality the Colonial Militia under the direction of General Washington fortified Dorchester Heights during the night so that when the British awoke they found themselves under the guns of the Colonials, no longer in a position to maintain their occupation of Boston. They were forced to evacuate Boston NY ship and slink off to Nova Scotia. The result of this, coupled with the devastating losses of troops from Bunker Hill and the retreat from Lexington and Concord caused General Gage to be recalled to London. He was replaced by General Sir William Howe, who was the actual commander at the Battle of Bunker Hill. It was Howe, not Gage, who occupied New York.My serious question is, "are there extenuating production circumstances which lead to these deviations from the true history or are these writers/producers this ignorant of American Colonial history. I would reiterate that some of the scenes are fairly accurate portrayals of events leading up to the declaration of independence. It's befuddling as to why some but not all events are portrayed accurately, and why the events which are not portrayed accurately are so wildly inaccurate. Did they not have the budget to hire an Historian knowledgeable of the events in this period? Or did they hire an incompetent Historian? Anyone moderately good at research would be able to find far more accurate information about these historical inaccuracies. In either case, to advertise this series as being the history of Colonial America's path to, and the beginning of, the Revolution is a grave disservice to viewers who believe this show to be historically accurate. All that said I still enjoyed the show immensely, thankfully however, I have a better understanding of what actually occurred and so can enjoy it without being mislead by it.

Sons of Liberty on Prime
I found most of the series was historically accurate, the sets were realistic and the cast made up of superb actors. As a retired social studies teacher, I enjoyed watching this chapter of history that we usually only read about in textbooks, come to life visually. It's a series I definitely would have had no problem showing all or parts to students in the classroom.

Fantastic show!
This is one of my favorite series about the American Revolution, or the events leading up to the American Revolution. Definitely a good watch. 5 stars. The CD case was a little bit cracked but it wasn't a big problem for me with all CDs still working.

A masterful presentation of a great nation's genesis. I wish it had gone on for another five hours. Highly recommended.
