No the straps do not fit across a king size bed.

Q: Can I use two of these for a queen bed

Yes they fit a queen, even a king bed works.

Q: will it work on a bed that has a mattress without a box spring?

We made it work on a day bed where there were just slats and a mattress but no box spring. We had to put a thick blanket over the slats but it still worked okay. You can still store it between the slats and mattress when not in use. Well worth it when grandchildren are visiting.

Yes, it comes with 2 rails. The two rails were connected under the mattress, to keep it steady. If you have some kind of flat frame to support the mattress, you should be ok.

Not Recommended

The product is of great idea to protect child falling from bed. The design is not a good one as the holding / guiding rail will go under the mattress and results uneven mattress surface. This can creat body pain as well.

Most difficult one to fit/assemble, impossible to open/close like it shows in the product pics, it’s wobbly and hard to fit. So unhappy with it.
