Well.worth its money
So I got this for my just 4 year old boy who does like a book before bed. I've been on a quest to find books that aren't entirely full of white heterosexual middle class imagery. This had great reviews and suggested age was about 4 up.Its a lovely book and actually I personally found it quite interesting, and informative. The illustrations are just lovely. It is though a bit wordy for your average 4 year old reader. (Non reader) we have read the athlete ones as that's what he has chosen, and he liked those. He's a little young to understand some of the more complex words , but it's certainly one that will be referred back to over the next few years. I'll definitely be reading to my daughter when she's older too.It makes a refreshing change to see some pages filled with strong powerful determined achieving Women.Nice book well worth its money but id say 6 year old and upwards.

Love it!
Love this little book, I bought this for my childminding setting and although I myself am white I feel like black people particularly women are underrepresented in history and it’s amazing to be able to look through the many achievements and accomplishments that some of these women have made. I think it’s important to have strong positive role models for anyone who walks through my door and stories that inspire them to dream big and that’s what this little book does. (It’s also a good little read for the adults too which is a big plus for any book aimed at children)

An inspiration
The book itself is beautifully designed in all it's wonders - Harrison's style and use of colour makes this so visually pleasing and on top of that it's educational! These are the types of books that children should be reading - uplifting and inspirational. Moreover considering the lack of ethnic minorities in children's books as a whole (that I'm aware of in the UK) I see this as a very much needed & welcome edition as one that doesn't focus on struggle persay, but moreso on achievement. I very much look forward to her next book.
