I found this book particularly useful for Task 1. It helps you organise your writing and produce high quality essays in the time frame you are given in the actual exams.

It gives the strategies and tips needed for the IELTS exams, not entirely and uniquely for the general module only though, but anyway you'll need to work beyond that book as well, which it gives abundant suggestions about too.
