The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson - Paperback

Good Book.
I was thoroughly engrossed with this thriller/mystery. It's been a while since I've enjoyed such a page turner and being a slow reader I got through this quickly (well quickly for me). It's one of those books that if a good director got a hold of the rights, it would make for one intense movie. It was just such a killer read, aaaaay! As much as I loved the twists and turns, I will say I saw them coming so it was lil' predictable (or I read too many thriller/mystery novels and I know what to look for now and second guess everything), plus the writer liked to put in a lot of pointless, descriptive detail which added nothing to the story, it also wasn't very believable I mean (view spoiler)I can't say any of the characters were likeable as well which was a bit of a downside to say the least, they all seemed a bit OTT or maybe that was the point. However putting those negative aspects aside (for some reason I find it easier to write about the negatives rather than the positives so it looks like I didn't enjoy the book at all but I DID!) I enjoyed reading this fast-paced, sneaky thriller and can I just say, THAT ENDING THOUGH! OOOOOOOOH!x

Brilliantly plotted thriller.
I fully agree with the positive comments in the other 5-star reviews: I found this a brilliant thriller which I have recommended to friends. As many reviewers have said, the opening scene is very reminiscent of Hitchcock's 'Strangers on a Train'. Ted, depressed, drunk and delayed in an airport confides in Lily, a fellow traveller, that his beautiful wife Miranda is cheating on him and says almost flippantly that he feels like killing her. He is shocked when Lily responds, 'I think you should'. As in 'Strangers', the two start to plot, certain that the fact they have never met before will place their unholy alliance beyond suspicion, but, as in the earlier story, Ted starts to have second thoughts and wants out of the scheme. More details would spoil the fun, but there are some amazing surprises along the way, and I was reminded of the superb twist in Ira Levin's 'A Kiss Before Dying', another brilliant thriller which I read years ago. To all lovers of suspense: do read this! You will not be disappointed!

Enjoyable.....
After the rather dreadful 'Disclaimer' I was extremely relieved to read a much better story . ' The Kind Worth Killing' is enjoyable because the protagonists are worth reading about, complex enough and nasty enough to intrigue and keep the reader on tenterhooks. A few rather predictable twists could annoy the fussy reader but as the plot is rather well constructed and the writing more than just acceptable I spent a good many hours pleasurably gripped by the developing story. Lily I particularly 'liked' although I do not share her morality or absence of it, some might say, but her twisted kind of logic made sense and in spite of everything I really warmed to her.

Page turner
Loved this book - obviously a little far fetched in places - but wouldnt be a great crime/thriller if there wasnt a little fabrication ! So pleased I have found this author's books as I see he has written several so will look forward to reading all of his others .
