Review: A favorite book since childhood Review: Horton Hatches the Egg is a wonderful classic for children. No one who has read it can ever forget Horton, the faithful elephant who in a moment of sympathy offers to sit on an unhatched egg for a while, to give the bird-mother a little rest. The mother ihowever s so happy that she forgets to come back, leaving Horton sitting on the egg day after day, week after month, through thunder, lightening and snow. But he stays on through it all, because "he meant what he said, and he said what he meant, an elephant's faithful, one hundred percent!" The book has a happy ending for Horton and the very special egg, which becomes his own.

One of my favourite children's books was purchased for a baby shower. All invitees were asked to bring one of their favourite childhood books, and while I have many, I felt that I had to include this one with a few others. Horton was pressured to care for the egg ,but nevertheless, while he is aware that he is being used and abused by the egg's mother, he refuses to relinquish it or allow it to die no matter how dire the circumstances he must face. Thus Horton teachers young children the importance of dedication, tenacity, and above all, love. If you are a parent that desires to impress upon your children these core values, Horton Hatches the Egg is one of the sweetest, funniest, most memorable ways to encourage faithfulness, kindness and endurance under the most difficult of situations. Horton repeats throughout, "I meant what I said and I said what I meant, an elephant's faithful one hundred percent." Please read this book to and with your children. This lovely story and Horton's undying dedication will remain with your children for a lifetime.

I read this book so much as a child I knew it off by heart! The story of poor Horton the elephant, who does a favour for his bird friend Maisie, but then she swans off and enjoys her life leaving Horton sitting on her nest! Children will love the ridicules story of an elephant sitting on a bird’s nest in a tree! I bought this copy for my friend’s son and I hope he loves it as much as I did.
