Trite story, clumsily written in the style of Mills & Boon
I don't like leaving a critical review of a book but I'm so flabbergasted by all the good reviews that I feel I have to. I don't know if it's Young Adult (publishers won't say so on the cover), in which case maybe it's fine for a teenager who's led a sheltered life, but it's so badly written as to insult the intelligence of the reader. All the characters are cardboard cut-outs (the only one with any credibility is Sunshine, who has Downs Syndrome) and the love story is toe-curlingly bad. If you like Mills and Boon, this might be your cup of tea.

Huge disappointment - simplistic and predictable
So disappointed! Having read the reviews I was really looking forward to reading this book - even bought an extra one for my mother-in-law as it sounded so lovely. But the writing style was painfully basic (it grated on me throughout and made me really quite angry - I wanted to rewrite it!) and the storyline so predictable that I had to skip ahead paragraphs and just get to the end to make sure what so obviously would happen did. A really painful and boring read. Honestly one of the most disappointing books I’ve ever read. The idea was beautiful and could have been exceptional but the execution was shockingly poor and I cannot for the life of me understand how so many people have given it 5 stars! Truly one of my least favourite books ever - sorry as I’m sure the author is lovely.

Started well but far too sickly sweet and formulaic
Started well but far too sickly sweet and formulaic. Characters were either too good to be true or complete jerks, no in between. The nice cup of tea should have been edited out, it was so annoying. Did persevere with it though having fought off the urge to bin it early on. Not an entirely bad read if you want something shallow to pass some time on a short flight. 2.5 stars.

A gentle story with a loving heart... Slightly predictable but highly enjoyable.
I've just finished reading the book. I read it on holiday and I wasn't super excited about it beforehand. But the premise sounded interesting. I usually read thriller or detective type books. But my favourite book ever is The Night Circus. I truly loved reading Keeper. It was light and fairly predictable however I loved the interwoven stories, the love stories ( which weren't just your regular ones), the way it came together at the end. It was different to what I had assumed the book would be like. It had a heart. I think the Sunshine character was the heart. Dancing drone ☺️After finishing I've come to Amazon and read the reviews. It seems that you either love or hate this book. Maybe it isn't for everyone and yes it is at times predictable. I'm glad I finally gave it a go because I personally got something out of reading it. I will definitely read another book by Ruth Hogan. I think it's important to mix up the type of books you read. Sometimes a book can be gentle but still entertaining.I really dislike the way people write reviews sometimes. They imply that if they don't like a book they truly don't understand why someone else might. But then they imply of you do like it, you must be a simpleton who is easily pleased. So incredibly rude and just no need for it. Just say it wasn't for you and move on. It's good that not everyone likes the same things. How boring would that be. Also sometimes you need something lighter after a heavy read.

Full of humour, love, sadness and a bit of spiritual magic
Just finished The Keeper of Lost Things.Beautiful book.Written well.Good mixture of humour and heartache.Touched my heartstrings when Alzheimer's was brought into the story as recently lost my grandfather to this awrful disease. The references made to this illness and the trial and tribulations experienced are true.Albeit a very predictable story line. You knew exactly what the outcome was although it still made you smile. Some parts were a bit far fetched but typical of this type of novel.Good holiday read or if you require some light reading at home or the like.I do recommend
