Not as advertised
I just received my kit and eagerly opened the box only to find that the seeds supplied are not the seeds named in the product description or named on the box. I am really disappointed I did not get the Jacaranda Mimosifolia - Mind-blowing purple leaves as described in the product description or illustrated on the box. If these hadn't been an overseas order I would have returned them immediately.

Nice plants but more challenging to grow
Easy to follow instructions but have some patience as it can take about 2 weeks to see any sprouts. Both pinus species sprouted within a week with the black pine following shortly after. Still waiting on mimosaefolia (the red tree) but I haven't given up on it. Excellent germination rate so far but this kit is a little more advanced.Comes with everything you need plus a nice mister for when they get bigger. If you're having issues, keep the soil moist especially if you live in a dry climate.Update: very low germination rate on Mimosaefolia. None sprouted on the initial batch. I managed to get one to sprout on a replacement kit they sent. This was without scoring the seed, planting in my own soil mix.

Very nice starter kit
I knew nothing about bonsai trees, but wanted to see if I could do it. I also thought the idea of raising one from a seed would be a fun challenge. I think the kit is well put together and provides everything you need to start seeds which look like they'll make great little bonsai trees. Some of the other reviews mention a few things that I'd like to comment on, as I'm going through the same process:- I have learned that you CAN just pick up seeds from local trees and grow them as bonsai. I didn't know that when I purchased the kit but I still think the supplied species look like they'll make good trees.- Some seeds don't germinate. This is perfectly normal. In this kit they provide an abundance of seeds, and the manual clearly says if germination doesn't occur on any of the provided seeds to contact them. It does take a while, but I had multiple seedlings from each species on my first try.- Mold can occur very easily when you're keeping something moist for an extended period of time. These pots are made for transplanting the plants and disposing of the starter pot. I've used this style with garden plants and herbs before and they work very well. You will have to find an appropriate pot once they are large enough.- For the 4 starter pots, 4 pods of "soil", 4 packs of seeds, and a simple spray bottle I felt this was worth the price paid. I'm sure you can get by cheaper, but it comes with everything you need, and a nice set of instructions to get started. The one downside I noticed:- To grow one from seed will take a _long_ time. So long that the instructions really don't get into the "bonsai" part of the process. I wish they at least gave time-frames and a simple set of instructions online for how to do that part. You can search online for instructions, but I wish I'd been better informed. All in all I'm not unhappy, and think it will be a fun process. I'm considering buying some Japanese Maple seeds to see how that turns out. If you're looking to get into the bonsai part, you may wish to start with an established small bonsai and work with that. I am looking forward to that journey.

Very few germinated then died, mold developed on all pots, soil, even seeds.
DO NOT BUY!Some seeds germinate quickly, but then die after a few months. Most of the positive reviews were written after the seeds germinated and people were excited, but they rarely come back and write an update.I only used a few seeds at the time, in total 4 germination processes per tree. I followed all the instructions to a T, even consulted a Bonsai specialist and followed their advise. The Jacarandas never germinated. Of the others some seeds did, but they all died after a few months. All pots and the soil developed mold within a few weeks and I was not able to get rid of it. There were even a few seeds that turned moldy. And no, I did not over-water!I contacted them and asked for help through their website as suggested in the instruction booklet, but did not get a reply. Then I sent a message again and asked for a replacement of the Jacaranda seeds and also inquired about fertilizing. After some back and forth they did send me a whole new kit, but never answered the question about fertilizing even though I asked a couple of times.I was excited about the new kit, but also disappointed that it didn't contain any Jacaranda seeds even though the box stated that they are included. I started over, again using only a few seeds at the time, 4 germination processes in total. The results were more than disappointing, not a single seed germinated.I was wondering, whether they just put some old seeds in the box, because the content did not match the information on the box, 3 of the 4 trees were different than stated.I really tried everything with a Bonsai specialist advising me for months. After all the tedious work for the past 2 years I have not one tree growing. So sad!PS: after reading some reviews mentioning the expiry date, I checked the replacement box I received and realized that it was also past the expiry date, when I received it. No wonder nothing germinated. Too bad I did not notice that, when I received it. Could have saved me a lot of time and additional money I spent on better soil and pots, so annoying!!!

Looking for advice
Hi, I love this product, the seller has been very responsive and thorough and I was able to get all 4 types to sprout. I would definitely suggest buying this since the seller makes sure you get your money's worth and get plenty of instructions if you ask.I actually made this post because I'm looking for advice - there are delonix forums but I thought advice would be best for this specific product. The delonix, I actually got 2 sprouts, both very healthy at first. One is still incredibly healthy (I transplanted one out)I've uploaded pics of each. Up until recently, both looked healthy like the 2nd picture, but now as you can see, one is crumbling and shriveling up. It is 10/13/18 today, and these have sprouted since around 9/4/18 so little over a month old.We have had rain for most of the day for a couple weeks now....they are in front of the window so they get as much sun as possible. I also have grow lamps (you can probably tell from the lighting) that are on about 8 hours per day. I started using the wick system - two planters each, holes in the top with twine going through to the water 'tank' in the bottom, for growing herbs the wick system worked great for me bc they need a lot of water but supposedly the wicks only take what they need for the plant. however, I suspect the roots of that one may be drowning....the one doing better is in a bigger pot. Reading about these types of trees seemed to confirm this - back when this plant was still healthy, the problem started as the two 'middle' leaves (halfway up stem) began to turn yellow and curl....then fell off completely. So, I drained the water tank, and started using a drip bulb instead....the drip bulb is still semi-full, staying full oonger than drip bulbs for other plants, and if plant is only taking from drip bulb what it needs, that would confirm my suspicion that plant has too much water.Has anyone run into this before and corrected it, or is it too late? I am using the growlight very close to it, have not seen improvement but unsure if I'm doing the right thing, it just takes a while to show? Any advice would be great.

Seeds are not growing
EDIT: So spring has come and I started another set of seeds to grow. I followed the instructions to the letter and out of the remaining 20 seeds, only 2 sprouts showed after 2 weeks. I continued to spritz with water and kept them in plenty of light, as well as maintaining temperature. Today, the last of the 2 sprouts has given up life and is past the point of no return. This product was a waste of my time and money!I followed the instructions to the letter. Even the difficult part, which is to score the seeds with a sharp knife. I did it and soaked them 24 hours. Since out temperature in our house is about 68F degrees, I had purchased a heat pad specifically for germinating seeds. The temp of the water fell within the range that was requested in the booklet. I potted the soil with warm water, in order to maintain the soil. By the time I put the seeds in after soaking, some were showing sprouts from the areas that were scored. I maintained soil temperatures by placing the containers on the mat, and putting a towel over the top. The soil temperature stays about 77F degrees. I spray water daily on them to keep them slightly moist as that is what the booklet says to do. It has been 4 weeks, and still they have not sprouted. I will continue to do so, but am loosing hope that they will sprout. I have extra seeds and will try again this spring when things warm up. I am not happy.
