Doesn’t work. It is didn’t work for my dog at all

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I’ve been using Advantage II for my Chihuahua after his showers. It’s easy to apply, and while there’s a slight smell at first, it goes away in a few hours. I haven’t seen many fleas on him since starting this—definitely an effective and reliable product.

We were using Advantix for a couple of years. That stuff quit working and the vet recommended this product instead. It doesn't work either. The chihuahuas still have fleas. Not sure what we are going to do next. Meanwhile it's frequent baths.

This was the first time I had ever used the product and I was very pleased with it. I had used another flea product for years and for some reason it just stopped working. I have two dogs that are indoor dogs but I take them outside to use the bathroom and let them walk around in the backyard, so they aren't outside very long but I do keep flea medication on them. I also have two indoor cats that I also keep flea medication on just in case the dogs should carry a flea inside. When my old flea medication quit working I found that my all four of my animals became infested with fleas, including my home. I was absolutely devastated. My basement even became infested and they don't even go downstairs. I had bites all over my ankles and the bottoms of my legs and I thought I would go crazy from the itching. I finally got online and after reading all reviews on different flea medications chose this for my dogs and the Bayer Advantage II Purple for my cats. I vacuumed like crazy constantly and bought the Raid spray in the purple can and sprayed everywhere, which will not hurt your pets and finally got rid of the fleas within a little over a month. I did find a few fleas on my dogs after about three weeks, although they were barely moving, but I believe they were jumping off the cats because my dogs have very short hair and you can see their skin, so I went ahead and applied the medication one week early on all my pets and haven't seen a flea since. I also believe that because my pets and home were so infested that it took a little bit longer to get rid of the fleas than it would have if they had been being treated all along with the medication. I'm still not clear as to why my other flea medication quit working. Maybe my pets had just become immune to it. I highly recommend this flea medication to anyone looking for a flea killer and it also did not leave my pets' fur greasy like my other medication did. I plan on continued use as long as it doesn't stop working.

I am so disappointed with the new Advantage. We used the original Advantage for many years, and it worked wonderfully. I recently purchased this Advantage II for my two small dogs, my yorkie and my chihuahua after we took them camping with us and they picked up fleas. Even though we live in Florida, we hadn't had a flea problem for quite some time. So I purchased Advantage II, treated my fur babies, treated and washed all their bedding, washed our own bedding, and my husband treated our back yard. The old Advantage lasted at least 4 weeks. With the Advantage II, I noticed adult fleas back on our dogs after just a week. By two weeks, they were miserable and just running with fleas. I called the Bayer hotline, and a representative assured me it was safe to reapply after two weeks, she said it could actually be applied *every week* if necessary. I don't want to put that much pesticide on my pets! And for crying out loud, who can afford 8 tubes of Advantage a month?!? (Two dogs x once a week treatment) I know I cant! So after applying the treatment to them both after only 2 weeks, I then washed everything *again*, vacuumed again, etc, and two weeks later..you guessed it! More fleas!! I am beyond fed up, everyone has flea bites, and this is costing me a small fortune. I do *not* want to use a flea medication that is taken internally by my dogs. I feel bad enough that I have to use a topical treatment to control fleas. So I really don't know where to go from here. I have been reading a lot about using Diatomaceous Earth, so I have ordered a bag of that, and that's what we are trying next. At least it's not pesticide, and it's food-grade, so it's safe. Incidentally, when I was speaking to the Bayer (the maker of Advantage) representative, she told me that the claim listed by many sellers that Advantage II "won't wash off with shampooing" is NOT TRUE!! She said ANY shampoo you use WILL decrease the effectiveness of the treatment! She said some shampoos are better than others (like the ones that don't contain harsh detergents like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), but they ALL decrease Advantage II's effectiveness. As much as I loved the original Advantage, I'm sad to say I'm giving up on Advantage II. Time to move on.
