Great pencils as usual from Derwent but the box is nice but overpriced.
For the price of the wooden box is a bit steep and the wooden magnetic bars only touch on one side. It could be argued that this would be so you can slide the bar away more easily from the magnetic pieces in the wooden bar and side connector. The reality is that upon opening the bar stays connected on one side but the other side sits on the pencil slots. The box upon 1st opening from delivery was everywhere, so I'm glad the pencils are all numbered but does leave me with wondering are any cores broken during transit. Why aren't the pencil slots as good as the artists 120 box ?. The sponge was all pressed in as well due to transition but was rectified with a few drops of water and delicate pressing. Pencils are nice and hard for fine detail work as expected for studio pencils. If you need the box for transit then you maybe disappointed, however if for use at home or studio then you don't have to move them anywhere .In all a nice looking box with a beautiful array of pencils with the bar holding pencils just about in place as long as the box isn't bounced around. I love Derwents products haha apart from a certain set of pens but their pencils so far have proved to be brilliant apart from the overpriced wooden boxes. They do look nice in my studio though and have given me great results not just in my studio but also for college. For university though it had to Fabre Castel polychromos all the way. The Derwent tins are a lot cheaper. I'd say it just depends on how much you want to pay and do you really need a wooden box? Maybe you do if you're a vampire like me! :) Mwahahahaha ;)

Horrible to use, so disappointing
Please don't waste your money, these are horrible to use and such a disappointment. The lead is extremely hard and scratchy and the colour pigment is poor.I really recommend Faber Castell Polychromos which I purchased shortly after theses - they're incredible and a joy to use. Highly pigmented with a soft buttery texture - a little more expensive but absolutely worth it.These pencils are a false economy. I gave them to our 5 year old in the end.

They do work brilliantly with Coloursoft and Artist pencils
As the hardest pencil in the ranges available for derwent, these sharpen to an incredible point for detail work. The blend fantastically with oils or mediums, blending stumps etc. They are not for gouging paper to within an inch of its life, but for subtle and gradual layering effects. They do work brilliantly with Coloursoft and Artist pencils. They are Wax based and tend to bloom, but only slightly in comparison with cheaper pencils. I read questions like are they as good as Faber Castell. They are a different animal all together, FC are oil based, these are wax. They all work very well together and can only increase the enjoyment for drawing and would be an asset to anyones collection. I bought the tin of 24 Studio, theres enough variety in colour for details.

Now colour to your heart's content!
I bought this item for my wife, who has joined the craze of colouring the many colouring books that are now available. She reports that the quality of the pencils is significantly superior to the earlier ones she had and that the range of colours is fantastic, allowing much more subtle gradation in colour in the pictures. She also liked very much the wooden box. So far as I am concerned, there was an excellent discount on the product! We both thoroughly recommend this item.

Beautiful colouring pencils in a beautiful wooden box.
Arrived on time. Well packaged. The wooden box is beautiful and the colouring pencils are a joy to use. I believe they are well worth the money and I certainly would recommend anyone who is looking for good quality colouring pencils for intricate work that do not smudge, then look no further than these colouring pencils because there are many cheaper BUT as always you get what you pay for But there are none better to my mind. If in double go on spoil your self........
