Useless item for my computer!
This item does not work on my Computer (HP Intel I5) ! It totally shorts the USB system altogether. I had to buy a FIREWIRE PCI card instead. Do not bother with this item. I have put it in the thrash bin! What a waste of money and time!

I needed to access files that are on my Firewire drive. I misplaced the original cable.

Converter did not work
The power difference between fire wire and usb was not corrected with this adapter.

To bad it's not working on my system
It doesn't work in my case. I have windows 10 PC and DCR-TRV17 Sony Digital Handycam. It works perfectly on my on board firewire. When I use this adapter/converter windows is displaying this message: "USB device not recognized The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." I'll check it on another new system (when I get) without firewire on board, if it works I'll update this review.
