Dressing & Cooking Wild Game: From Field to Table: Big Game, Small Game, Upland Birds & Waterfowl (The Complete Hunter)

Excellent Resource
If you're looking for easy to prepare but delicious new recipes for preparing your wild game, and could also use a reference for processing your meat anywhere from skinning in the field to wrapping up specific cuts of meat, I cannot recommend this book enough. I've tried most of the recipes and me and my family and friends have yet to be disappointed. In fact, after trying a new recipe, the reaction is typically, "Wow! That's amazing!" all around the table, even from people who aren't typically fans of eating wild game. The text is explanatory and straightforward. There's no fluff, and the author clearly has experience with all of the topics covered in this book. There are also plenty of clear, full-color photos not just for showing off the recipes, but for showing you unmistakably where and how, for example, to cut and wrap a bottom round or a rack of ribs. The book also covers, in a very graspable, non-scientific way, topics like aging meat. There are OTHER books that will get you down "in the weeds" if you want to read chapter after chapter about the exacting details of butchery or the minutiae of what's going on at the molecular level when aging meat in various conditions. However, if you just want to do it and do it right the first time with a solid, basic understanding of what to do, and get some amazing new recipes for your wild game, this book is definitely for you.

Mouthwatering
For those who have been so fortunate as to be familiar with nature and thereby benefit from all its God given bounty, whilst holding precious all manner of conservation, balance and perspective, this is a wonderful book;it is both comprehensive and well illustrated.Sometimes,if not all too often, we are seemingly all too keen to follow meekly the corporate agenda for profit; otherwise and all too often guided to a path of mass production of chemically enhanced consumer products. The vast majority of consumers have no choice but to forsake the past and abandon tradition, in compliance with a precarious consumer society with all too many toxic consequences.Maybe for some, that obese lifestyle is all but burned out in many respects. Some of the most harmful food products are increasingly in the spotlight and yet again some might even yet be put in check.Like a small minority of like-minded others I stubbornly refuse to let go of the past and reading this book allows me to feel somewhat vindicated; it takes me out on a hunting journey, in search of natures uncorrupted bounty.

Fantastic meat cookbook
Been using this cookbook for a few years, primarily using the big game and rabbit recipes. Has great diagrams and basic how-tos on cooking and cleaning game. I have tried several of the recipes exactly and am never disappointed, and I have used many more of the recipes as a template for my own creations with varying degrees of success. A few of these (especially the bbq style rabbit dish) have become my favorite dishes to cook. Also, these dishes donβt have to be for the specified meat. I have done all sorts of variations and have used domestic game instead of wild at times. There is a good variety of recipes and all sorts of interesting meat types included. Highly recommend this book.

A solid cookbook with a wide variety of recipes.
To be 100% frank, I've only used a handful of recipes from this book and all of them have been on mule deer venison. That being said, all of the recipes I have used have been first rate. My wife used to turn her nose up at venison and couldn't stand the strong gamey smell (admittedly, I was overcooking it but have since learned better). With a bit more practice at cooking venison and using the recipes out of this book, she did a complete 180. She was genuinely disappointed when we ran out of venison as she became addicted to some of the recipes found in this book. She no longer asks why I bother going deer but instead encourages me to go hunting so she can get her fix!The various how-to sections (knife sharpening, field dressing wild game, etc) may also be appreciated by new hunters.

Just So You Know !
I purchased the books "The Wild Butcher From Field to Table and "Dressing and Cooking Wild Game". Both books are excellent when it comes to pictures of "How To", from field dressing to actually cutting and butchering the meat of any game animal. There is a lot of information for processing the meat you hunt and a lot of pictures to show you how. The problem with me was, both books duplicated each other on content and pictures but not necessarily the same page numbers. These two books mirror each other on their content. Save yourself some money and either buy one or the other. They're both the same, both excellent choices, both published by Creative Publishing International. I'm giving one of the two to my son for his reference!

very good for newbie
I'm a newbie at harvesting my own meat. This book is just great. The photos are outstanding. I just wish they would have shown some more "sub-steps" in the process. Perhaps I am wrong, maybe it's really easy and any "sub-steps" would have been a waste...maybe it's just easy and makes sense when actually doing it. So what I'm saying is that I don't quite have the authority to be quoted on this subject.

Wild Game Cookbook
About thirty years ago my husband borrowed a book from a friend of his to copy an article on how to field dress wild game. There were pictures in this article as well as headings on the various sections of the process. I Googled one of these specific titles and was able to locate the exact book that had been borrowed 30 years earlier. We will use this book as a reference as well it is a fabulous cookbook for many years to come!

This is a good book and covered the subject I needed most information ...
This is a good book and covered the subject I needed most information on being curing and smoking. Some of the ingredients would definitely be off the agenda in the UK but a good read.

Even for a Seasoned Hunter
I bought this book as a gift and liked it enough that I bought a second copy for myself. Initially the intent was to have something my son could refer to when he was dressing game out and in this capacity the book is well illustrated and quite clear. I know that this type of instruction has been detailed in a number of books, so there is not a lot new here. However, I found the diagrams to be clear and easy to follow. The part that impressed me was the recipe section - which I had not expected to be as good as it was. It has the usual recipes for rabbit, duck, goose, etc but it has ones you would not normally see (and likely not normally use) for raccoon! The recipes ranged from simple ones (BBQ partridge) to fancy (savory pineapple baked Quail). The photography is excellent and just looking at the photos makes you hungry. I would describe this as a specialized game cook book that also tells/shows how to prepare your harvest once it is down. I was very impressed with it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good food and hunting.

Great Book! Helpped me gut my first grouse!
Bought it as a gift for my spouse. Very clear and colourful illustrations showing how to field dress large and small game and great wild game recipes too! So far I was able to gut my first grouse with the instructions of the book and have made a couple of the grouse recipes - and they were good. The book is sturdy and worth it!

Great Book
Yum, Yum!! these are great recipes and turn out just like the pictures in the book. The only problem might be you don't get any game this year.
