Good book
Although the "Encyclopedia" definition is a bit pretentious. The author has published several similar books on the subject (maybe "recycling" photos and texts): richly illustrated, color, bound, excellent paper, good price. The volume includes an introductory part on the history of this type of white weapon (in the title "knife" must be understood as "military" or as a dagger or short version of daggers or bayonets, however a part of the soldier's equipment). You will therefore not find, except in rare cases, examples of "tools" or "gentleman's" knives, but only descriptions and photos of brutal objects designed to offend (perhaps as a last defense weapon). Then follow a series of chapters more or less in chronological order (with geographical digressions at the end) dedicated to the single categories (bayonets, daggers, etc.) with typologies often characterized by the historical age. The book is primarily a photo album, with large, clear photos and short captions describing the individual pieces. Curious that many are explicitly indicated an "unknown length" (but who took the photo?) An interesting volume for enthusiasts, even if I would have expected some more technical data, in particular on the metals used (generically referred to as bronze, iron, steel, etc.) when the true connoisseurs of the subject discuss for hours on the properties of the different types of steel (obviously valid for the most modern pieces, but ...).
