Yes, you can plug into cable modem. It should come with 2 cords. One for regular jack and one for cable. That's the way mine did. Not sure about volume control. Mine is for show in my phone collection case. I don't actually use it to talk. Sorry.

no? if you want a phone on a wall then get a landline MADE for it. this is more for desks or to sit on furniture.
