100x better than "what to expect"
I received this book free from my midwife clinic and I'm do so glad I did! Up until then, the only pregnancy book I had was "what to expect" which was a really disappointing read - to surface level, all over the place, not a lot of comprehensive information. This book has it all - how your body changes during pregnancy, how the baby develops, different pain relief options for labor, helpful stretches, what could go wrong, what to expect in labor, breastfeeding, newborn care, etc. It seriously covers EVERYTHING. My baby was breech - this book have various ways to help turn a breech baby. Our doctor attempted an external cephalic version to turn him head down - this book helped me prepare for what to expect in that procedure. I knew a c section was a possibility if he didn't turn - this book explained what the c section procedure and recovery are like. Seriously, anything that came up in my pregnancy, this book covered.I recommend this book to all of my friends who are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant.

Thorough and very informational
Excellent read for pregnancy. This book is dense - just flipping through it, you can see how small the margins are in order to fit in more information. But the information in the childbirth section is very thorough and includes a lot of tips for natural pain management and natural birth techniques, which is what I wanted to read most. The newborn section includes lots of information about breastfeeding and what to expect postpartum. It can be annoying at times how frequently the book self-references a page a little further along that where you're currently reading, but it is nice to have one book with so much information in it. This, and the Mayo Clinic books on pregnancy and the first year, were the most helpful books I read while pregnant, by far.

Very good information and balance of the technical with the emotional ...
Very good information and balance of the technical with the emotional end of pregnancy. Glad to report there are very limited antidotes and fluff stories unlike another ‘popular’ book on the market - if you really want to read other peoples experiences, there are 500 blogs available for free online. This book also does a good job of balancing many of the different birthing perspectives - Hospital vs. home, etc. and really emphasizes that each couple research which options will benefit them the most. It provides a good amount of information to get you started and then also provides resources to learn more.Definitely a book I’d recommend to friends in the future.

This book was fantastic! I love that it addressed pregnancy
This book was fantastic! I love that it addressed pregnancy, delivery and having a newborn, and not just one of those topics. The book was straightforward and had no fluff or unnecessary moments where the author got on her soapbox. It was pretty neutral towards whether or not you have a natural or medicated birth, or whether or not you breastfeed. I loved it and will definitely reference it again with future children.

Comprehensive pregnancy guide with up-to-date information.
This is a very comprehensive book that I really enjoyed reading. There were two things I was looking for in a pregnancy guide and this nailed both of them. The first was up-to-date information: this book includes current pain medications and current diagnostic testing methods. It even has information on where new research is leading. The second thing I was looking for was a happy medium between working with your doctor and birthing naturally without reading like a text book. I like that the author doesn't assume that your doctor wants to strap you to a bed and shoot you full of pain medication. It allows for a happy balance between listening to your doctor's advice and following through on a more natural birth plan or any method of birth that you choose.

Best book you can buy
I checked out this book electronically from my local library twice! This being my first pregnancy, I had (and still have) a lot to learn and figure out. After the 2nd loan was about to expire, I kept thinking that even though I had read the entire book, I would love to have a copy for reference through the remainder of my pregnancy. So I bought a copy on Amazon, and I'm so glad that I did. Having the book allows me to mark certain topics for reference later. Best pregnancy book that I have read so far. The author does a great job of explaining options without being biased.

First time Mom to be....completely clueless
Definitely covers a ton of information....I still find myself back and forth considering I've read several books, and websites. Contradiction is inevitable. I guess experience is the best guidance, but I do feel a bit more confident with the headstart. This book offers information without circling unnecessary tidbits. It's to the point, which is exactly what a first timer needs.

Highly recommend!
If you plan on getting pregnant, get this book! It has all the information you need to know and more. I'm reading it for the second time now and am learning new things I didn't catch the first time. It's also very practical and factual without being opinionated which I really appreciate. Highly recommend!

Best pregnancy, birth,& newborn book all in 1!
This was one of my favourite pregnancy books! I checked it out from the public library and skimmed it before buying it. I chose it over "what to expect when you're expecting" because this book was better organized, more effecient(less info but what was there was more relevant),and because of the overall positive tone of the book. It doesn't induce worry or fear and it doesn't make you think that you need to go buy lots if baby stuff. Most pregnancy books are either pregnancy or newborn care but this book does both really well plus birth info too.

The most important book to buy when expecting
My favorite pregnancy book of all. It is an essential read for anyone expecting. Simple, so comprehensive and so utterly thorough. Penny Simpkin simply sets expectations and is without a doubt the ultimate guide and support for pregnancy and labour. She has a youtube channel, website, online resources and guides. It is a truly wonderful book you will not ever regret buying and will consult over and over again.

Great book! Lots of useful info
I loved this book because it gave pros and cons in an unbiased way, and provided factual information instead of facts mixed with opinions of authors as I’ve found in many other books. This book was thorough and put a lot of my questions and worries to rest. I will definitely be recommending to friends and family who are pregnant!
