What Was the Underground Railroad?

My 8 year old loves these books! They are full of great information and easy to read and follow along. I enjoy reading them together and discussing the history in them!

My third graders love this series of books. Several of them even keep lists so they can check them off as they read them. They’re highly engaging for kiddos who are fans of nonfiction. The pictures give extra info to go along with the text. Timelines in the back of the book make it easy for readers to keep track of events in the books. Perfect for avid and reluctant readers alike!

I have always thought the underground railroad had something to do with trains running underground until i read this. It was just a metaphor.

Very well written. My 11 year old granddaughter read it for a home school book report. It was so helpful in opening her eyes to the horrors of slavery, the bravery of those who helped slaves escape and ultimately to the necessity of the Civil War. Highly recommend.

Great book for kids! I got these for my local children's library from their wish list. The kids are excited about reading them.

Lovely done. Illustrations give a book life. History can be a lot to digest. This was very informative. Highly recommend.

Small book, good price and very Informative.

My teaching partners and I decided to read this a class read aloud this year for our 4th grade students. The kids absolutely loved every second of it…we did a novel study after our civil war unit in SS so the kids had some background knowledge…the real stories of these brave men and women are amazing, engaging, and inspiring…the kids were obsessed! Highly recommend!!!

My children read the book and learned a great deal. It’s like History written for children between the ages of 7 and 12. We order a few of these books when schools were closed - during the Corona pandemic as a way to continue their education.

Acheté pour mon fils ( 14 ans, 4eme) afin de le familiariser à la lecture en anglais. Il a bien accroché. J'apprecie que le livre ne soit pas trop long, avec des illustrations, écrit dans un anglais plutôt simple et facile à comprendre, évitant ainsi que le jeune lecteur francophone ne se décourage. Il n'est pas toujours facile de trouver des textes aussi abordables avec des thèmes capables de susciter un intérêt chez les ados. Je trouve ce livre très vbien fait et je le recommande. Je pense en acheter d'autres de la même série.

A wonderful addition to my collection of books for grade 2+ for Black History Month. Gave us a starting point to explaining the Underground Railroad before we introduced Harriet Tubman and others on the timeline of events.

Really informative and pitched at the right level for my children.
