I have been using The Art of Shaving products for years. This travel kit contains the core group of products the whole company was based upon. First off, the brush- it is a small travel brush- very soft and high quality badger. It works perfectly with the shaving crème provided- 1.5fl oz (travel size). I use the travel brush every day, when traveling, except for the last day, in which it will not have time to dry. Prior to shaving, however, is the preshave oil. Here we have a 1 fl oz bottle. I would use a quarter size amt on my palm just prior to brushing on the shaving crème. This adds to the lubrication and I find it increases the longevity of the razor blade. There is also a 1 oz tube of after shave balm which is the perfect moisturizer and aftershave. All of this will give you an excellent shave. However, in this pack, the piece de resistance is the actual razor. It is called the Morris Park and is a slightly weighted razor that actually makes it easier to shave-. It is smoother and with a fresh blade about as close as can be. It alone sells for 60 dollar so it adds some value to this pack. Also are two bags- a clear plastic one perfect for the one quart rule in the airports and a very nice vinyl travel bag perfect for all your toiletries- nonliquid. The travel kit is perfect and is truly representative of the best The Art of Shaving has to offer.

I already use Art of Shaving as my normal shaving routine (I hate shaving so I actually make it a weekly ritual to do a nice shave) so I was excited to get the travel kit. I travel on a semi regular basis and my wife insists if we are going on vacation that I take her to a niece meal so shaving is a must in her eyes. The bag is an ok size but not really big enough to put all my other bathroom items in so I ditched the bag. Shave oil is a must for me as it makes it so much easier for the blade to glide over your face. It's a tad sticky on your hands and you will go trough blades quicker but I like it. The cream included has a nice scent and lathers easily enough. The brush (the real reason I was excited about the kit) is a must for a great shave and from experience the Art of Shaving badger brush will last much longer than a $10 brush that comes with most packages. The aftershave isn't greasy and a little goes a long way. After I shave I notice the scent for a bout 10 minutes and than it disappears but who cares how I smell its the shave that is important and my face is as smooth as a baby's bottom after using these products

For convenience, I've always liked using an electric razor, however, I have used the Gillette Mach 3 on and off again and really appreciate the closeness of the shave that an electric razor just can't beat. The problem however is the time it takes. Electric razors are faster (at least for me). This is my first foray into "The Art of Shaving" where speed is the enemy because the joy is in the journey as it were with the steps below: 1. Apply the Pre-shave Oil It's sandalwood, and smells great, but not too strong made from castor seed oil, olive oil and "fragrance/parfum" The front of the bottle says "Sandalwood Essential Oil," and you'd think it would be listed on the ingredients. Maybe that's what the fragrance/parfum is, but it makes it sound like it's synthetic. I checked the Art of Shaving Website and it says it is "formulated with a unique blend of botanical ingredients and essential oils," so here's hoping that it's real essential oils. It smells great and a little goes a long way. Remember this is for a travel kit to pass TSA size requirements. They have larger bottles available separately. 2. Lather up with Badger Hair The brush is a badger hair brush, and let me tell you, it has a bit of a smell to it. But that's not the biggest issue with the brush, it lost a number of its bristles on my face the first time I used it, which combined with the shaving cream, did not make for a pleasant experience. Wash the brush first, and rub it in your hand first to try to dislodge any loose hairs from the brush before applying the cream. The second shave was better, but a few hairs still came out of the brush and mixed into the shaving cream as I applied it to my face. The third shave, there was maybe one hair from the brush that came out. A little annoying, but Art of Shaving is going after the "art" part and using a traditional brush type. It adds to the allure of the "art" I suppose. Now, I'm used to the brush, and the shaving cream has masked the smell of the brush. I like using it better than applying shaving cream with my bare hand. So where I didn't feel all that great about the brush at the beginning, I now like it. The shaving cream smells nice, and is labeled Sandalwood Essential oil but contains a number of ingredients, glycerin being one of the main bases for it. The shaving cream is better than other creams I've used, and consistency of the scent with the pre-shave, shaving cream, and after shave all being sandalwood is very nice. 3. Shave with a great razor The kit includes a razor with a quality metal handle and a Gillette Fusion 5 blade removable top. I thought with the handle being metal that the razor would be too awkward and heavy to shave with (compared to the plastic handled Mach 3's I've used), but I was pleasantly surprised. The weight adds a quality to the experience that I'm sure they're hoping you'll notice, and I did. I like the 5-blade razor over the 3-blade I've used previously 4. After the Shave The kit comes with an After-shave Balm that is also Sandalwood and has a very long list of ingredients. They highlight that it has "a touch of Shea Butter and Grape Seed Extract" It really does feel great. It's free of alcohol, so Kevin should have used this in Home Alone. It really does help to moisturize, but I like that they call it a Balm instead of a moisturizer. 5. Storage The kit comes with a nice blag travel bag with a sturdy zipper. It also has a removable plastic bag that the products came in that you can use to prevent leaks when traveling if you didn't put a lid on tight enough. -- Final Thoughts -- Where I normally shave just quickly and in a hurry, I find myself with this kit enjoying the experience. It truly makes an art of a daily ritual.

A few months ago, I switched from shaving with Gillette blades to an electric razor, compromising some on the closeness of my shaves for the cost savings and convenience of dong away with replacement blades. When travelling, however, I still prefer packing a blade, and this travel kit is exactly what I needed. The blade itself shaves as well as any on the market, though it does not have a pivoting head, which may be a negative for some. The quality of the shaving experience is enhanced by the pre-shaving oil, shaving cream, and post-shave balm that come with the kit, and using all three produced one of the closest shaves I've ever gotten. The bag itself is well-made and was just large enough for me to pack my other toiletries on a recent business trip. The after-shave leaves a powerful lavender scent, which dissipates within half an hour. The only down-side is the price of this kit, which seems to exceed the value of the individual components.
