ABR: You Can Read! Adult Beginning Reader Program

Great instruction

Dr. Zorn's ABR You Can Read book provides a comprehensive system for students who are either beginner readers or ESL students who need to learn English sounds and vocabulary. I have seen this system tested with adult students with excellent success. It's amazing to see the students gain confidence as they progress with this book. It is so comprehensive that students have the opportunity not only to learn basic reading words but also how to apply them to the world around them in daily living. Adult students who learn from this book feel encouragement as they see how quickly they progress. This book will be excellent for adult literacy classes as well as Adult Basic Education classes. Students who need to learn English will really benefit from this book because it begins with the basics of the alphabet and works its way up to sounds, blends, compound words, site words, and daily living words.

My husband and I came across this book and started doing some of the exercises with our 4 year-old son, who is a pre-reader. It was amazing how quickly he responded to the colorfully-presented and engaging material. Even though this book might be intended primarily for pre-literate adults, there's so much dynamic material in here that we felt the book was ideal for family literacy i.e. parents working with kids to teach them how to be successful readers. It's certainly a cut above the typical primers that are intended for young emerging readers!

This is a well organized book that is a great way for adults to learn to read. It provides a much needed vehicle for teaching this important subject.
