I have a full house - kids, grown ups, cat, baby. My beautiful wooden stairs were aiming to kill us all until we bought this stair tread. Now, my family and I can enjoy long and happy lives without the risk of flying down our stylish staircase towards certain death!The underside of the tread is a sticky, spongy material that "sticks" to the wooden surface below. It's not flimsy. It's not "kinda-kinda" stuck on there. Nope. That material is locked on to our staircase like it's mating season. The circus monkeys that we call children have not managed to bump or nudge a single tread in all their high energy running acrobatics. No parent has inadvertently tripped on any tread edge while carrying baby up or down. The treads have not moved a centimeter since we slapped them down. Any yet!! If we want to move them, it just takes lifting it up from the stair step - effortless! Nothing is stuck to the wood, the sticky spongy tread underside is perfectly ready to be used again, as though it never had been before!The carpet material is also quite nice. This burgundy one in particular is quite true to the color in the pictures. It's good quality material, no pilling or fluffing up, no threads coming loose despite the constant entropy of my house. It's not even collecting dust foofies or all the food we fed the rest of the floor. It hardly needs a clean!The only drawback, which has nothing to do with the actual product (hence leaving it at 5 stars) is that our calico cat can camouflage nicely on the tread, making herself invisible and therefore deadly. For some reason, she thinks our demise will convince us to feed her more. Yes, we are fully cognizant we may very well be one of those households who are found half-eaten by the family cat. So, just in case you have one of Those Cats, be forewarned.... your longevity is only partially secure with these stair treads. They will at least buy you a little time.

Sticks perfectly without tape, etc. I just rinsed the floors with water & let dry before applying. The stairs had not been waxed for some time. Beautiful color, I like the contrast with the wood, makes it easy to see. My dogs have a much easier time going up & down the stairs & I no longer worry about them slipping & falling. My husband had no difficulty vacuuming them with an attachment- they stayed stuck to the ground. Very "smart buy" as we like to call it.

Bought these to help our dog make it down our stairs. Now that we have them he makes it down much easier. No more sliding and wiping out! We did not tape ours down and they have been staying in place with no problem!
