Buttercream One-Tier Wonders: 30 simple and sensational buttercream cakes

I am modestly interested in cake decorating... but flavor is really important to me. That's why I got this book on Kindle- I'd like to be able to make "fancy" cakes, without relying on fondant and royal icing.I haven't yet tried the recipes, but they look reasonable. I'm more interested in the decorating techniques, and there's lots of good ideas here!The directions are well-written, and definitely make the various designs seem accessible.

I am always looking for ideas and opportunities to see how cake decorators use their creativity and tools in unique ways. I've been decorating cakes for 25 years and these books shared some new and interesting ideas. I especially appreciated the ideas for getting fondant-like results with buttercream as well as the design ideas for airbrushing, lace, silicone texture sheets, and crochet-look frosting techniques.

I don't know where the simple and sensational came in. There were 2 techniques I didn't know before, but other than that, I was totally unimpressed. This is the second book by this artist and I gave it the same review. Maybe I am just ot into this type of English decorating. If I hadn't bought it cheap and second hand I would send it back. I expected to find the same samples of cake design as the cover but was disappointed. Glad I didn't pay full price.

This is a great book to learn to decorate beautiful cakes. Plus being one layer, it's easier to focus your attention on the decorating.

It’s not ideal for British baking! Instead of flour the author has stated ‘1 packet of an American brand cake mix’us British bakers don’t use cake mix for this kind of cake and we don’t sell American cake mix in supermarkets!Only good for ideas and adapting recipes.Book Shouldn’t be sold in the UK!

This book is good but I do think it was a bit expensive.
