Wonderful book.
I found this book so helpful. As someone with auto immune conditions I experienced the same attitude from medics. As Cynthia Li is a doctor herself she came up against inadequate alopathic medicine and her advice is invaluable.

An Inspiring and Prescriptive Book for Curing Chronic Ailments
This was an exceptionally well written book that recounts the author's personal trials as she navigates the frustrating world of 'undiagnosed' chronic diseases. As a physician herself, her inability to uncover the cause of her ailments sets her on a journey to discover a new paradigm of medicine which combines the ancient healing traditions of the past and the modern scientific methods of today. Dr. Li's sincere prose retells the emotional lows from enduring a disabling malaise, the grievances from not having people understand her plight and the inner wisdom that she cultivates through adversity. The book was engaging, informative and should be standard reading for all medical professionals. As more and more people fall victim to chronic, 'mysterious' diseases - a medical community that understands the subjectivity of the patient experience and the nebulous nature of illness will be a boon to society at large.

Beautifully written and contagiously hopeful.
I purchased Cynthia Li’s book after watching an interview she gave. Initially, I did not believe I’d be all that interested in the autobiographical aspect of the book but hoped it would be worth reading to get some practical advice on dealing with chronic autoimmune conditions. As it turns out, the autobiographical aspect was not only compelling reading but was also perhaps the best part of the book. Li’s illness was far more disabling than mine; but my own difficulties were highlighted while reading about hers. I became more in touch with the self-blaming that can happen with these odd conditions not well understood by traditional medicine. The book also helped me admit to the isolation and loneliness that these conditions can bring, and how the stress of this can add to the already-malfunctioning autoimmune system. The effect was to not feel so alone, and to feel hope for myself after reading the depths of illness from which Li arose. There are plenty of practical holistic tips for self-care, but there are a lot of books that provide that. For me, what stands out about Li’s suggestions and what makes them particularly valuable is that they seem to arise from a deep integrity, thoughtfulness, evolving open-mindedness, and kindness that permeates all of Li’s writing.I am so glad I bought this book. It has been life-changing.

insight into autoimmune disease/memoir
I liked the book because the author told her story and gives some very good ideas of how to live with autoimmune disease.
