Do the rods and fabric come in such a way that I could replace the fabric with my own choice of fabric?

Yes. The rods and fabric are separate pieces so if you want to say, sew a cute pattern and use that instead you could. The material is strong and durable though so unless you didn't like the colors you will love this product.

Would this topple over easily?

If not against a wall I think it could topple over because of its shape

Does this need to be secured to the wall?

Yes, if your children try to climb things.... for older children, probably not. It's light. We didn't and the children, twins 2 and baby brother 8 months do turn it over from time to time.

How many books can it hold?

I currently have about 30-40 small books in it. With no room to spare

Great as infant’s first bookshelf

We are using it for a couple of months. My 1 year old kid loves to pick his books from the shelves. Fabric is a bit thin but did not have a tearing problem. It does not roll over even though we did not secure it
