Not the Scholarly work I was hoping for.
If you’re looking for an objective scholarly work, this is not it. Very frustrating. It treats the Gospels and medieval legend with scrutiny but the gnostic gospels and 1982 grail book as if they fell from heaven. There’s an entire chapter about the gnostic gospel of Mary (with no critical approach to its veracity) and then a passing line about how the church fathers (who were writing at the same time) agreed with the classical Catholic narrative. If you want to be critical and academic, that’s great but be objectively critical. The Gnostic gospels are full of problems and just because John looks slightly feminine in paintings is not proof that it’s actually Mary. Sheesh. A little more evidence please.

Nicely illustrated. It's well done
Very well done. Nicely illustrated. It's well done, and I know something about the legends and the silly unfounded stuff the Roman Catholic church did with her, like that she was a "bad" woman, even a prostitute. For a more humorous treatment, read Christopher Moore's novel "Lamb".

I'm glad there are reviews to read before I download them ...
Due to reading the reviews of the different Mary Magdalene books, as a Christian, these would only make me upset. I do not believe what has been written about her and Jesus. I may be wrong, but my belief is this did not happen. I guess when only we get to heaven, we will find out. I'm glad there are reviews to read before I download them too my Kindle.
