Camp William Penn

Much better book than expected
Camp William Penn is very much like a Life Magazine of Black History in Philadelphia during the Civil War. It's hard for me to imagine black people as free people in the 1860's in our nation. Yet there were hundreds of thousands who were black, free, patriotic and willing to go and lay their lives down for their country. It is one eye opening book. I was shocked to read how officers would execute all the black soldiers whenever they were going to be captured by the Confederates. They did this so the Confederates wouldn't shoot them for leading black soldiers into battle. I was amazed to read how a Regiment of Black Soldiers was executed in Florida after the war ended. Lots of rare, one of a kind pictures in this book and many things you would never read any where else. One amazing eye opening book. I'm so thankful I was able to find this book.
