Excellent Piece of Kit, Well Made, a Fair Price, Looks as if It Will Last, It Works Well, Wish I Had Bought Years Ago.
Absolutely Brilliant and worth EVERY pfennink.Well made, well finished and comes with all the bits you need to fit to (I would guess) almost every petrol rotary mower. Easy to set up and fit to the underside of your rotary mower, in fact the hardest bit was removing the original blade). After last Winter with the never ending rain my lawn is more moss than grass even though the grass is there if I search for it. I have been practisingom a small area away from the house and the first thing to say is lift the cutting base to its highest level - try it - lower it a notch and try again - lower it another notch - you get the idea. To you start with the normal cutting height that your would use for the grass cutting blade you will will have no moss and no grass either - a new take on a scorched earth policy !But does it work - oh-yes, it does. Now I have only done a small practice patch because I was eager to have a go. Better to use the dethatching tool when the soil is reasonably dry and the moss is dry, this way you will scarify with less chance of damaging the grass roots and the scotch will be easier to collect and compact in the collection box. You will be amazed at just how much moss will come up so make sure your council green bin is empty before you start.I am actually looking forward to doing the whole lawn towards the end of April (I was going to moss kill and weed and feed mid April but decided against this - see edit later) and not having to use arm and back muscles that are only taken on an outing increasingly rarely these days - to use a lawn rake to remove moss, or even one of those scarifiers on wheels (I have used both over the years) is not the way to go. This scarifying attachment IS the way to shift the moss, just start with a high setting and then lower to what you will see is an 'optimum' position - a bit of trial and error.Worth the money - YES definitely. The delivery was much faster than advertised as well. All in all, a pretty damn fine addition to the tool store in the garden shed. Wish I had bought one years ago and saved on the embrocation for the back.EDIT 19th April 2016Now based on experience of doing the whole lawn not just the test area which I did earlier. Scarified the lawn properly this time (I tried it back in Feb but it was really too early and wet). What can I say but it is still hard work but nowhere near a tiring and as long as scarifying and moss removing the 'traditional' way with a back braking lawn rake. Here's the secret:-1. Cut the lawn and use the scarifier when the grass is dry but not when it is scorched dry or you could damage the grass roots.2. Mow the grass short first, it will really save on the amount you will bring up when you switch to the scarifier.3. I positioned the scarifier to one blade lever higher than my normal cut because the tines that stick down off the red blade are much lower than the cutting blade. For me this brought the tines down to just above the soil level so that it will remove most of the moss and de-thatch the rank grass very nicely.4. I needed two mowing's with the scarifier one up and down the lawn and the second at either 45 or 90 degrees to the first, this ensures a comprehensive scarifying so you don't miss any bits which is easy to do because only about half the arising's are lifted into the grass bag. If you scarify when the lawn is wet you will end up with an unpleasant mush.5. Replaced the blade again and mowed the lawn on the mowers normal setting. It took a second mow to pick up all the arising's.I thought long and hard about applying the moss killer, weed and feed before I used the scarifier and decided against it. The experts will tell you to do this first so that the moss is dead but I found that if you practice getting the tines on the scarifier set just right you will het up almost the moss leaving only the odd bare patch. I will apply the 3 in one moss weed and feed as soon as it looks as if we will get a reasonable wet and frost free patch. That's it really. It took 2 hours from start to finish on a lawn size of approx. 400 square metres, you still work up a thirst but at least that's it intil next year : )Andy

Much better than expected !
To be honest, I wasn't expecting much but for the price I thought I'd give it a try. So glad I did. Fitting the blade takes a couple of minutes and you're good to go.I have an old lawn that to my knowledge has never been properly raked of scarified. Whilst this won't replace a powered scarifier, it does do a fantastic job of raking years of thatch out of the lawn. I was amazed at how much this simple device actually removed.Just make sure you set your mower at it's highest setting then work your way down until the tines are removing thatch without damaging the grass.Best way to collect the waste was to put normal blade back on the mower and 'hoover' it up.

Your under-gardener will love you for it
I like to keep my lawn well. It's a large part of my garden, which in turn is a large part of my cottage so I regard it as a financial asset. Besides, I like to look out over a verdant stretch of stripey grass every morning when I part the curtains to see if the sun is up. I have a gardener who visits for a few hours every week and makes sure all is neat and even. The gardener has a helper who I refer to as the under-gardener. The other day the under gardener was scarifying the thatch out of the lawn with a hand rake. He was doing well but slowly. It was going to take him several visits to finish the job so (being the caring type obviously) I bought one of these and gave it a go myself. Blimey! in 20 minutes I'd gone over the whole lawn twice. My gardener watched me in grateful amazement then (having asked the under-gardener to sweep up all the dead thatch I'd removed) sped home and ordered one for himself.Seriously, for the price this is a top tool. Why buy a whole new scarifying machine, to use once a year and then store between times, when this will work with any petrol driven rotary mower?

Fits Harrier 41
With the lawn looking a little sorry for itself recently i was desperate to get some of the moss and thatch out of it. I treated the lawn with weed/feed but was left with a lot of dead moss to look at!I've used an electric scarifier before but found it hard going so was looking at a cheap alternative.Reading the reviews I was not sure if this would fit my Hayter Harrier 41 as the mower has a friction disc where the blade attaches but thought I would give it a go.Anyway, the scarifier blade arrived promptly and looked like a hefty bit of kit! The springs are easy to attach and within minutes I was ready to attach it to the mower. The scarifier blade comes with a selection of spacers/bushes and once the original cutting blade was off, I was able to use one of the spacers in the centre hole of the scarifier blade so that the original blade securing bolt was a snug fit (and more importantly, centred)The friction disk on the mower is slightly concave so when the scarifier blade is offered up, it looks to rest on the edges. However, in the same way that the original cutting disk bends as you tighten, so does the scarifier blade.Just keep winding the bolt up 'till it is tight.Once secured, it looks slightly bowed but it doesn't matter as the tynes still point in the right direction and there is no vibration when you start the motor.Right, now lift the deck to the highest cutting position. At this point, the tynes just scrape the surface of the lawn which is exactly what you want. All fitted and ready to go it took me less than 15 mins to do a large rear garden and then I refitted the cutting blade and went over it again to 'hoover up' the loose moss.Things to note. This blade is brutal! My lawn looked really bare after using it but I know from past experience that this is as it should be after a good scarifying.Secondly, as the deck is at full height, it does chuck all the rubbish out of the side of the mower. I might look at making some temp side skirts as it did shoot the stuff all over my lovely borders. All in all, a great purchase and made the job easy.

Very pleased, a must for any petrol mower owner.
Fitted it to my 100cc self propelled Einhell mower with relative ease using the fixings provided with this blade. I did have to take an angle grinder to the corner tips of the blade as the deck on my mower was interfering just slightly (even though the cutting blade was 16" too?) , that said, once on it's done a better job than any electric scarifier could've done for a fraction of the price, really please with the results.Quite a few people moaning about how long it takes to pick up the thatch once it's been pulled up, I just switched back to the cutting blade and put the grass box back on and hoovered it up in no time at all (a full green bins worth!). The front garden (pictured) took me about twenty minutes in total, the back garden is going to be a bit of a larger task...
