Dried Purple Basil - Spicy Basil Leaves Herb - 3.5 Ounces

I was very pleased with the product when it arrived. I enjoy purple basil as I find it to be more flavorful than other types of basil and I love the gorgeous color. This product had an amazing scent when I opened the package and the flavor when used is very full and really speaks to the care taken with creating this product.It should be noted that the leaves are still on the stems, and if you just throw them in what you are cooking, you may get a rather woody, chewy surprise! The stems are easy to remove by snapping off the leaves into your dish, or you can grind the whole thing wither with a grinder or mortar and pestle. It's worth that tiny bit of extra prep work as this is a great herb and you get a large container for a great price (I paid $10 for mine). Highly recommended!

I liked this, but there were a huge number of twigs and stems mixed in. This does let one know that it is picked dried plant material, but I spent a lot of time picking twigs and stems out, before using the herb. I am accustomed to twigs and stems as I buy a lot of herbs and spices in Turkey, however this bag had almost twice as many twigs and stems mixed into the dried herb as any dried herbs I buy in Turkey. I would say at least 1/3rd of the bag was twigs, stems, and other plant material.

This product is amazing. The potent fragrance and flavor of this purple basil is light years beyond any dry basil I have ever used. I have run commercial kitchens as a chef for many years, and wish that I had found this sooner. I use this at home now all the time. The only minor caveat is that much of the basil is still on a stem. I think this is also one reason why the flavor is so good. Really it takes less than a minute to separate the leaves from the stems. Enjoy!

The flavor of this basil is great for brewing tea. I add a little stinging nettle for a excellent tea for your liver and kidneys. Want more flavor? Add some honey for a sweeter taste, add some freshly squeezed lemon for some tartness. Highly recommended.
