I used this pump to pump with an inline connection. FYI The variable control does not work with an inline connection. Inside of the cover, is a removable part of the housing with the connection for an inflow pipe fitting that also gives access to the replaceable magnetic rotor that forces the water through the pump. Because of the design, there is a fair amount of back pressure and I have speculated that the back pressure is forcing or allowing leakage. In my application, about 3 or 4 gallons of water would leak during an equivalent number hours of running. I ordered new o-rings that I believe will resolve the problem but haven't had time to work on it yet. So, our fountain has been out of commission this summer. The company did offer to refund my money, however. I decided that I wanted to keep it because I thnk I can make it perform using a different o-ring to seal the water leakage.BTW we estimated that we would need about 250 gallons per hour but this pump rating is nearly 5 times the the volume we estimated. It just met the water flow needed so also they are energy wise and easy to repair, they do't actually meet the rating they sugest in real applications (keeping in mind that I am talking in line use). I gave three stars because I think submerged, the performance would be better and the leakage wouldn't make a difference.

The had a major leak. I returned it and will try a second one.

Very poor durability. The impeller shaft snapped after a couple of months of service. The manufacturer refused to replace it, so I purchased a replacement (for about 1/4 the price of the entire pump). The replacement snapped almost immediately. There wasn't any trash in the pump, I'm not using it in an unusual application, it just isn't durable.

Bought this on May 2, 2015, it's been running in my pond till yesterday 01-25-2016. It's dead now, no water flow. The pump only runs 16 hours a day, I shut it off at night to save power. Lasted almost 2 years, not real good.
