Yes, this works great. I often make pot roast in this Dutch oven. A long low heat bake gives great flavor. The Dutch oven and lid are oven safe to 450F. Buon Appetito

Is the safe for use with a broiler?

We have used ours in the oven many times with no problems. I looked through the Amazon ad for clues to your question. It is good to 450 degrees. If your broiler is 450 degrees of below it should be safe. If it is over 450 degrees, the answer would be no...according to the manufacturer.
