Q: How did you justify spending $130 on this item?

The main reason for the price is the size of the item, the entire item is machined in aluminum. However the reason for the item is convenience, gauging is tremendously faster with this product. Or you can look at the price compared to another product like it, the Dillon single gauge is $15 for a single hole, the EGW 7 hole is $20 that is just under $3 a hole, the Double Alpha 20 hole is $55 which is also a little under $3 a hole. So looking at this product you are paying $130 for 100 holes that's only $1.30 per hole with the added feature of speed ontop of the cheaper overall price.

Q: If i lay this on a flat surface will it identify any reloads that are beyond max oal?

It depends on what oal you are loading to. I load to 1.150 to 1.160. On the flat surface they do not go all the way When I pick it up off the surface they all fit flush. I haven’t tried to see the max oal that will fit flush while on the flat surface

Q: Would the standard 9mm gage or the 9L be a better choice for loading .356 coated lead Bayou bullets?

I have used this gauge with Bayou bullets with no issue. I do not have the 9L.
