The Kautiliya Arthasastra (3 Vols.) (vol.1 in Sanskrit, vols. 2 & 3 in English) (Pt. 1-3)

It is an insight into history. While the Six Measures of Foreign policy are very interesting the law governing the society back then detail how advanced the culture was. As per Kangle there are multiple Authors who added to the Arthashastra and it does reflect some influence of Manu Smriti as well which perhaps is a much later text. I was very surprised to see references to Passports and organized tax structure etc.

Great books thisil is the real deal on Arthashastra. But this is also a lot about research work that went into the making. This book is ideally for those doing their own research on the arthashastra with sanskrit as this book not only has meaning but also has sections where Kangle explains the document stream, correction and corruption of sanskrit words, and its classifications too.I'm giving it 5stars coz this is what I was looking for, the original content and translations, even though at this time the research section is of no use to me.
