BEWARE SERIOUS QUALITY ISSUES & FALSE WARRANTY
You might think by the price and CREE in the name that you are buying a good quality bulb. Wrong on both counts!I bought 5 of these bulbs and liked the color and brightness because it was the closest I could find to a Halogen PAR bulb. However, after a few months, one by one they started to fail. They would flicker intensely like a strobe light and sometimes go to half brightness. You are probably thinking I had them on a cheap dimmer but no, they were on a switch, no dimmer. And no they were not getting hot because sometime they would do it as soon as they were turned on.By the time they failed they were past the date for return to Amazon so I contacted CREE only to be told these are NOT CREE BULBS. They are made by IDEAL possibly using a CREE element so I was told I had to talk to IDEAL. So I go the IDEAL website to find their "NO HASSLE" warranty, get an RMA number and ship the bulbs back (meaning I had to find another 5 bulbs in the mean time). A few weeks later I get the same bulbs back with a note "BULBS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY". Now I know who the NO HASSLE is for!Needless to say I am not very happy right now having paid out almost $300 for a P.O.S. to a disreputable company that will not honor their warranty.

ideal LED
I received several of these and agree with buyer who said they do not put out the amount of light stated. I have compared these 14 watt LEDs with a 600 lumen halogen and they do not seem quite as bright and are not as warm. Having said that they put out the about the amount of light I expected and will work for my kitchen lighting. I can't say anything about reliability at this point because they are too new.I am adding an addition, it has been about 4 years since I started using these in the kitchen, one started flickering recently so I took it apart to see why. The input electrolytic capacitor is failing, you can tell because it is puffed up on the top, replacing it got rid of the flicker. I suspect that as long as they are using electrolytic caps in the design they will almost always fail before the rated life of the LEDs. Something to keep in mind when running these in a overhead Can, they will last longer if they get better cooling. If your house is always air-conditioned and the Can is uninsulated you will probably see longer life then I did. Two of my bulbs are still going but I suspect they will have the same problem in a year or 2.

Great replacement for 75W Halogen Par 30 bulb, but...
This is a very good replacement for 75W Par30 wide angle bulbs (not 140w). Your savings comes to $400 per bulb over their 50,000 hour life span at 13 cents per kwh.Note that this is actually a Par 31 bulb (by definition Par 30 means 3.75" * 8. This is a tad bigger than 3.8" * 8 = 31. You MAY have issues fitting in your Par 30 fixture. They do not fit into mine as they arrived. I had to remove the plastic ring that protects the heat fins before it would fit into our kitchen ceiling fixtures and replace it with white electrical tape. (see attached photos)Ideal has reassured me again (2/18/2013) that they are aware of the sizing issue and do intend to eventually fix it.I have 8 of these now and they have used this same Amazon listing for multiple bulbs over the past year. First the 16w 8013A with 7 CREE XP LEDs, then the 12w 8013A with 12 CREE MX LEDs, then the 13w 8019 with 12 CREE MX LEDs.In early 2012, I purchased all three shades of the warm light 16 watt bulbs from Ideal LED (Warm, Incandescent Warm, GE Reveal Warm) and settle on this (the GE Reveal Warm). The warm was too pink. The Incandescent Warm was a good replacement for Incandescent coloring, but the GE Reveal Warm gave the most accurate color in our kitchen. These Ideal bulbs are the only Par30 option I can find that are bright and color true and wide angle.Back in 2012, these were 16w and 120 degrees wide angle. The bulb I purchased from this same link is in 2013 was 11w and 90 degrees wide angle. The new 11w bulb seems brighter than the old 16w bulb and the bulb itself looks better as well, tho they STILL are par 31 bulbs not par 30 so they do not fit into my par 30 fixtures. I cannot tell the difference between the 120 and 90 degrees. These are wide angle and diffuse, which is what I was looking for.Ideal replied to this review stating that they are using more efficient LEDs AND they are using focusing lenses (like 12 tiny flashlights) to get more of the light out of the bulb into the area you are lighting. To make them fit, I cut off the rim, removed the cover, taped over the wires and screws with white electrical tape and cut out 5" squares of this material Rosco Cinegel Tough Spun, 20" x 24" Sheet of Light Diffusing Material and stretched this cloth like material over the bulb.In the end, they make great replacements for our existing 75w Par30 Halogen lights. They are still a bit more expensive than I'd like to see, however they easily pay for themselves in 1 year in our house.Finding a non-halogen/incandescent Par30 bulb that my wife and I both like has been a 10 year struggle before these came out. These bulbs are very light compared to their competitors that I have held. The 2012 bulb is only 170 grams. The Philips 1100 lumen ambient LED bulb weighs in at 226 grams and another Par38 1000+ lumen LED bulb I have comes in at 541 grams.I like that they are paying attention to these reviews (even my updates!) and I am impressed with their responsiveness to my inquiries. The insert I received in 2013 lists a dimmable Par38 and Torchiere bulbs, but Ideal is not selling the latter one quite yet as making them dimmable adds significantly to the cost. They also addressed a long standing question I had about LED bulbs. To quote: "you may turn [our LED bulbs] on and off as often as you like and it will not shorten the lifespan of our bulb". I asked because we tend to leave our CFL bulbs on much longer than we ever did the incandescent bulbs so much of the energy savings is lost, because not only did they take forever to get to full brightness, but turning them off and on frequently vastly shortens their lifespan (The U.S. Energy Star program suggests leaving them on at least 15 minutes). I guess all those problems disappear with LED bulbs.
