Awesome power
When purchasing know if your going from a smaller pump that uses 1.25” hose you will need a few adapters to size it up the 1.5”. But this pump is powerful. Gets the water flowing in the pool and the sprinkler I set on the return I can’t turn all the way up, it will blast the water out the other side of the pool. The pump that came with my pool it still had a little haze in the water. After running this thing the water is perfectly clear. It is worth the money by far. Easy to set up and powerful. All I add to my pool is a chlorine tab on the floater and this pump. 2 weeks and my water stays clear. If you’re on the fence about getting it go ahead. You’ll be glad you did.

Perfect to upgrade the tiny, crappy cartridge filter most above ground pools come with.
We have a 16x10, 42” deep Coleman pool we bought this summer, and all it took was one weekend out of town after forgetting to refill the chlorine tablets for it to turn green. I spent about a month and a half trying to clear the water without upgrading the filter, but those little cartridge suckers just don’t have enough power to get the dead algae out of the water once you’ve killed it. I ultimately opted to drain the whole pool, scrub it down with algicide, and refill it once I purchased this pump. I do believe I got one that is one size larger than I actually need it for my approximately 2900 gallon pool, but I could not be happier with it. The old cartridge filter needed to run the maximum 12 hours a day to even come close to what this one can do in a two hour cycle, and I opted for a mixture of sand and reusable filter balls mostly because I underestimated how much sand this one needed (75lbs) and couldn’t find more locally. It looked intimidating to set up, frankly, but once I got it all out there it was a breeze physically. The programming isn’t quite as easy to setup in my experience, but once I got it to what I needed it became set-it-and-forget-it. Because of the type of pool I have, I did have to buy some extra pieces to convert the hose situation to be compatible with this filter, and at some point I will buy one more piece of hose to act as the drain hose for backwashing it (I drained it into the ground the first time, but since it’s right up against the foundation I recently had leveled, I won’t be doing that again to avoid any issues). The water has stayed crystal clear with a winter cover over it since late September (still warm enough to swim here until December sometimes, but the cover keeps the mesquite tree crap out of it), and we had already added a skimmer basket that works MUCH better with this pump than it ever did with the cartridge one. There are certainly fancier and more powerful models out there, but if you’re just converting a simple above ground pool purchased at any big box store or Amazon, this pump in whatever size is appropriate for your water volume is a great value. I see why it was the top recommendation when I researched several places before purchasing. Granted this pump cost more than we paid for the pool, but it will make that pool last much longer with less maintenance as a result.

Just outside of return window and plug malfunctions
The pump itself is great except a recent rain compromised the “waterproof” GFI. Took a bit to not have a heart attack thinking the whole pump was messed up. Once thoroughly inspected we could see water in the little window on plug. Once we took plug apart, we could see where half the rubber gasket sealing the plug was not installed. Perhaps an oversight at the factory. I supplemented another plug I had on hand as I wait to hear back from company on sending me a replacement GFI plug. It’s under warranty so we will see what they do.Otherwise, it works like a champ! Really cycles the water efficiently. We are on well water and this pump helped me get the water into shape fast! I would highly recommend!

Works great
I used the pump that came with the pool last summer and the first 2 days were the only days without green water. This year we tried this out and it’s awesome. Clear clean water all summer with minimal maintenance. Try this before you give up on your pool.
