I've Got a Blister On My Thumb
In a word... Wow!I love this book so much that I wore a blister on my thumb playing the first few songs that I play with the thumb only. Until I develop a healthy thumb callus, I may have to resort to the felt picks for some of these tunes.I love the standards like "Georgia On My Mind" and "Summertime" — the first is cozy and the second down right creepy. The only complaint I would have is that I don't like the rhythm applied to one of my favorite songs of all time, "Til There Was You".Included are great chuggy versions of "Here Comes the Rain Again" by the Eurythmics and "Viva La Vita" by Coldplay. This is an eclectic and fun collection. Not too difficult for an advanced beginner to play with practice (I always like playing stuff just slightly above my ability and these works fit the bill nicely).Get this book! Then go over and get John King's The Classical Ukulele (also in this series).Happy uke'ing,---Brian

Even a uke dummy can get the concept!
I have been learning uke for a year and a half and I can bang out a song but with zero artistry and with the most basic technique. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to even understand this book let alone play using Hill's techniques. Well, at first reading/practice, I get it. My brain gets it, anyway. My hands? They can't duet yet, but I am working on it and feel confident that I can get there. S l o w l y.Good thing I actually enjoy practicing. If I keep up practicing with the book, my artistry will improve greatly and I think I'll play everything better.I picked one song, Georgia On My Mind, out of the book to break my teeth on. I'll report back in a month or so!

These are so cool!!!!
Love this book. It only has online access to the training materials so this is one where you don’t get a CD and you can’t listen to it on your stereo but the arrangements are great. I will end up memorizing about 80% of this book. (There are only a few songs that I just don’t like that much personally but all of them sound great.) They appear in graduated order of difficulty which is nice. Includes folk standards as well as jazz standards, cannot go wrong with this book. These are Standalone Solo arrangements. You can slow them down to practice along with the online training materials to get them up to speed Accurately and easily. One of my favorite ukulele books. Note: songs are arranged for ukulele tuning where you have the high G string which is what I have so - yay. And nearly every song has a cute intro or ending lick. Get this and sound cool 😎

GREAT Book, WILL Improve Your Playing
This book, if practiced deliberately, will ABSOLUTELY change your ukulele game. I've worked up a couple tunes in a week (and playing around with many more), and the way that it requires my hands to move, my brain to think, and my ears to listen have inarguably made me a better musician. I'm now re-thinking the pieces that I already know! The description and James' video say it well enough; these arrangements put emphasis on the melody of the tune, while keeping the chorded background consistent to produce a sort of "duet" played on a single instrument. The part I was most surprised by is just how accessible the arrangements are. Watching James' play is always a bit deceiving (on account of how he's on a completely different level, and all), so I figured the book would be very difficult. While the tunes aren't easy, none of them are impossible. The sheet music and tab are both laid out very well, and seem to be inviting to the player. Plus, the included lessons in the beginning of the book set the player up for success, and lay out very clearly the expected level of knowledge before starting. This certainly isn't a "starter" book, but it also doesn't pretend to be. If you are a semi-competent uke player who wants to focus on more melodic playing, buy this book and play the hell out of it.

Some nice arrangements
Some songs are great. I really like “Georgia On My Mind”. Very well arranged with great chords. Some songs no matter how well played are a little less pleasing. Overall a good book to practice chord melody and try inversions of familiar chords. This book is more suitable for someone who is a little beyond a beginner ukulele player.

Making me a better Uke player!
I love this book so much! I purchased it in May, 2020 and go through songs every day. Very challenging as a beginner/intermediate player. The only gripe I have about the book is that it doesn't show any suggested fingering positions for the more complicated chords/notes. Practice, practice, practice and figuring it out for myself. Many of the tunes have Youtube videos of other folks playing James' version, so that is helpful.

I have been playing ukulele for a year so find these arrangements very challenging. However, it's a great way to improve skills and in some places I can improvise where it is beyond my ability. I have learned several new chords from the three tunes I'm tackling. It would have been helpful to have fingering suggested, having tied my fingers in knots in some places, but I guess the tunes are arranged for someone with better expertise than me. The exercises in the front of the book are very helpful and very clearly explained. James Hill is someone to aspire to.

Great Ukulele Tutorial Book
This is by far the best ukulele tutorial I have bought, it is manageable for intermediate players like myself and if you practice each song in sections until you have perfected them you will be amazed. Other books in this series I found much too difficult with no tablature, I hope James Hill will soon bring out another one.

finger picking and strumming
I've always loved finger picking. Didn't like strumming as much because I found it less challenging... but when you combine the two, well, that's a whole new ball game. Thanks so much James Hill, you are fab!!DaveB

Very good book
I follow James Hill lessons and can't wait to be good enough to perform the tunes in this book. Not for beginners. He explains it well but you need to practice a lot to get good at it.
