What a great complication of Perry Como's career hits. It's Saturday night with Mr C all over again

After the special on PBS on Perry Como, I had to get some music by him and this cd had the most for the least cost and I did not go wrong on this set. Just what I was looking for.

i'M A BABY BOOMER---WHO DOESN'T LIKE PERRY COMO. HIS "AVE MARIA" IS THE BEST.

Some nice moments (Magic Moments!),but I would have picked out some others from his great catalog as well.

Comprehensive selection of songs!!

Nice compilation of tunes from several periods in Perry's career. The notes say that they've all been taken from the original RCA masters.....however, I beg to differ from that claim. One song in particular comes to mind: "Linda". This was not from the original stereo recording, but sounds as if it was from a "re-channelled for stereo" (ugh) sub-master, used when the song was re-released on an RCA Camden vinyl compilation that I have. The Collectable label released it properly on their CD issue of "Como Swings".

This 2011 release from Sony Music is part of their very interesting series of value-for-money packages under the title “The Real...”.The Perry Como set was part of the initial run of releases and is a significantly different collection to most available on the market (at the time of writing) in that there is much more emphasis towards album tracks. You’ll find tracks here from legendary Perry Como albums including “Saturday Night With Mr. C”, “When You Come To The End Of The Day” and “Como Swings” alongside a healthy sampling of hit singles from the 1940s and 50s - housed in an appealing digipak case with CD labels resembling records.The downside of this collection is that there are no tracks included from after 1962, so you won’t find for example, any of Perry’s recordings conducted by Nick Perito or indeed his 1970s hit singles. A second volume would be a welcome addition.All in all though, this is a great value-for-money release; and the whole series is an interesting and attractive way to build a collection, of some of the finest artists in 20th century music. This particular release is a good starting point for people new to Perry’s music, or for those looking for a handy collection of miscellaneous singles and album tracks, from Perry’s first two decades with RCA Victor.
