These Violent Delights
E**R
Gladiator + Zombies.
These Violent Delights has plenty of zombie action as well as a tough, intriguing heroine who has to dispatch her undead opponents both to survive and for the entertainment of others. While that concept is reason enough to read it, you should also know that this novel is FUN. The prose is tight and efficient, packed with cliffhangers that won't let you stop when you finish a chapter. You'll tear through it as quickly as Emily decapitates the newly risen, wondering why the book isn't longer and whether there's a sequel already. It reads like a finely-tuned movie, and really, it would make a good one. Also, let me assure you: Ms. Raney's not afraid to wallow in the guts, carnage, and hard choices that come along with this genre, but there's no guilt in the pleasure of reading this tale.Ethan A. Nonstop Thrill Ride
Led by a strong female protagonist, These Violent Delights has everything to make this a thrilling page-turner: zombies, gladiators, cannibals, and other "violent delights." Normally, these things would get old for me. However, the story line kept me intrigued, and I could not put the book down. I highly recommend this for everyone from the casual reader to the lover of the horror/thriller genre.

A bloodsporty zombie romp with a deadly fun heroine.
I liked it. A different starting and ending point from most zombie tales.

Don't accept the New World Order...
This book sucked me in immediately with its engaging protagonist and interesting post-apocalyptic world-building. Aloof but not uncaring, Emily refuses to be broken, despite all that's happened to her and her family. I do believe Emily Wells would break Katniss's arm for being a whiny brat. The Violent Delights is a fast-paced adventure that manages to find hope slowly conquering pragmatism, and shows that you should never give up in the face of overwhelming odds. All the stars!

Keeping the zombie spirit alive!
A true guilty pleasure read for me. I can't help it, I like zombie stories! And this one, while not a mind-bendingly extravagant twist on the genre, is everything I wanted. I'll leave the spoiling for the undead, but I especially liked the ending's reveal. I guess if there's one thing I haven't seen, and desperately wanted to see, in zombie tales, it was--well, that.Go read These Violent Delights until the bitter-or-not end to decide if you feel the same.

A new favorite for me!
This is the first book I've read by Jessica Raney but it will not be the last. I loved this book. It had everything that I love. Post apoc, dystopian, zombies, survival, fighting. I only wish it could've been longer. I'm hoping for a sequel. hint hint. I highly recommend this book.
