is the gold actual gold or a gold paint?

Obviously, at $30, it is not actual gold. They don’t specify that it’s “gold plated”, so I doubt it’s even 14k or other gold plating, which will eventually wear off with use (especially being handled a lot), anyway. I imagine that the gold exterior, whatever it actually is, probably holds up better than gold plating anyways. I believe this company does offer genuine fine metal pens (sterling silver; gold) priced accordingly, of course.

Does it ever smudge like does it let out enough ink to smudge while writing?

No. I've had Fisher pens for several years and smudging has never been a problem.

does anyone know if you can order this inscribed with a name?
