Tiger Tempo

First of all let me say that the illustrations are great! Very cute and colorful. Basically this is a book to teach musical terms to children. The first page of the story explains that Tiger likes to race. The last page identifies his place at the finish line. In between are 8 pages with the very same chant to repeat as Tiger runs at various speeds which are identified by their musical terms (largo, andante, allegro, and presto). VERY repetitive, but repetition is a tried and true method for learning.Personally I would have liked a little variation, but as a 7yo beginning piano student I probably wouldn't have cared about the same chant being used: I would have paid more attention to the terms. Since I was a piano major / voice minor who taught both by the time I was in high school, I am fairly certain that all those repetitions that were used on me did their job very well. You go, Tiger! Now, let's all repeat: Help the tiger win the race....

I am an elementary music teacher and was looking for books for my room and found this one! When the package arrived my 2 ten year old granddaughters were here and opened it. They loved the book and read it several times! I bought This book for my younger students, but my 10 year old girls LOVE it too! This was a SCORE and I can't wait to use it in my class!

This book is a great way to reinforce tempo with young students! It has the terminology and a picture of a meter to help students understand the relative speed of each term. There are pages for the teacher to show when the students do not use the correct tempo, which will encourage the students to help the tiger. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful. There are quite a few ways this book can be used with movement, body percussion, instruments, etc. Great resource!

Vicky Weber does it again! As I perused the colorful and creative pages I couldn’t help but hear the running beat in my head! I loved the pace dial in the right color of each book and how the pace changes depending on Tiger’s terrain changes! Kids will definitely have fun helping completed Tiger’s run whether they are alone or in a classroom situation! Terrific rhythmic read!

I love when books are interactive. This book teaches the students steady beat and tempo in a colorful and fun way.

Easy to read and helps with keeping the beat. Needs a song or something to go with it. My son enjoyed it.

I used this with my students, in a zoom class, last week! They were so excited to help Tiger in the race. Lots of smiley faces and moving bodies/hands to the tempos in the book. A kindergarten parent even told his wife she should get the book to use in her music room!!!

Tiger Temp is another win by this amazing author. She has really done a fantastic job writing books that engage students in elementary music. I have been teaching for over 21 years and I have never seen a product that compares with her book set. It's a must have for any music lover out there!

What a fun and interactive book to teach children the basics of tempo in musics. My sons are 4 and 9 years old, and absolutely loved it. There are so many layers to this book: On the one hand there's the possibility to act out the different tempos in different ways (either by reading the text at the appropriate pace or by having the kids run around the room just like Tiger Tempo does in the story). On the other hand there's the tempo that varies in accordance with what's going on in the story (the kids loved connect what is shown with what is being read). The illustrations are amazing and contain a lot of lovely details to discover. If you haven't yet, you should check out "Rhythm Rescue", as well, which is another great resource for the music-lover of all ages. Overall, I can highly recommend this book.

A fantastic and accessible book to help children understand tempo. Will definitely be using in music lessons to support understanding of new terminology!

I used this with my grade 1/2 music classes to reinforce a range of tempos. Before we read the story, I showed them an old wind up metronome and had them tap the beat at different speeds. Then we read the story and tapped the beat to keep the pace and helped the Tiger win his race! On first appearance, I was worried it would be too repetitive, but the kids were really engaged and they loved the illustrations too and pointed out all the antics the characters were getting up to that I hadn't even noticed! More of an interactive game than a story book. I recommend it for fun in the music classroom!

This book gives beautiful visuals to help reinforce the concept of changing tempos. Kids relate to the story and afterwards can better comprehend and use tempo changes in their own music.

This is a great book with sweet pictures. It is a fun way to introduce young children to experience tempo and learn correct terminology. Fun resource!!
