Great product but definitely "chewable" (plus a hack!)
For the people who said their dog chewed through this, yes... it can easily be chewed through. That is a built-in issue with anything made of fabric, period. Nothing anyone can do about that so let's move on. The gel is nontoxic, colorless, nongreasy, and easy to wipe up, with a viscosity about like jelly. How do I know all of this? Because my dog chewed a hole in his the first time he actually used it. I think he was trying to get it out of his crate, which is my fault for buying it right before a trip. Give your dog a week or even two to get used to this funny-feeling squishy pad, and they will probably discover it is actually super cool and comfy! OK. HERE IS MY UNOFFICIAL HACK: Because this wasn't cheap, and because my dog normally never chews anything any more, and because he chewed off part of the edge, I figured I had nothing to lose by trying to repair it. I noticed the entire thing is not sewn, but fused together, presumably with heat. So I squished the gel away from the tear (back into the blanket, starting at the open edge), wiped the surface clean, cut the edges to make them look tidier, then put a rag over the hole and pressed it gently with a dry iron on medium heat for about 20-30 seconds. VOILA! Perfect! My dog is happy and so am I. I have tried other brands of this thing and this is not the least expensive, but it actually DOES what it says it will. My dog will seek it out in the house and nap on it, now that he has figured out it makes him cooler. RECOMMENDED (for dogs who aren't chewers).

Excellent product and durable
We live in the desert and our summer temperatures are commonly above 100 degree's. Before buying these our pets wold pant from being in the hot car until the air conditioner could bring the temperature down. Now, we keep these pads in our refrigerator and before we travel we place one inside out pet beds and under a towel to help keep our dogs cool. They love them and no longer pant from the hot environment. We feel better because we know our pets also feel better. By the way, even in our extreme 100+ degree temperatures they stay cool for at least 2 hours. Likewise when it's cold, they stay warm. Highly recommend.

Rabbit chewed it BUT IT WORKS!
Even though my rabbit started to chew on it, it does work. The manufacturer made a quality product. My rabbit almost chewed into the gel but I took it away from him. I use it myself sometimes. It’s helpful.

Durable
We have this for our pup and she’s obsessed! We take it just about everywhere for her. Seeing as she’s got a lot of fur (still has her puppy coat) and she’s black she’s needs all the help she can. It’s even at the foot of our bed every night for her to sleep on. Having been camping, slept on every night, taken to picnics etc it’s very durable. We’ve bought off brands but she goes for this one EVERYTIME.

It is not pressure activated that is just marketing ploy
It is a great durable easy to clean product. It folds very easily to a very small size so I actually slide it in my bottom drawer in my refrigerator to chill it. The whole pressure activation is not accurate. There’s gel inside. It’s either cool or it’s not. Nothing activates it except it being in your refrigerator. I made the mistake of putting it in the freezer and it was hard as a rock but still nice that you can do that if you want to bring it to a park although it’s kind of heavy but worth it nonetheless I’m keeping it. My dog will not lay on it or walk on it without having to lay a towel over it he doesn’t like the texture but he is just a diva I guess

Nice Mat for my Cats
I have 3 former feral cats, who now live on my screened porch. Since the weather has turned hot, I wanted to find something to help them through the hot days in addition to fans. I bought two different cooling mats to see if they would use them. The Coleman mat is the one they use quite frequently. I put it on a throw rug and then covered it with a fitted crib sheet, so they wouldn't have to lay on the plastic cover. I can also throw the sheet in the wash when it gets dirty. By adding the rug underneath it makes it easier to move the whole thing - sometimes I put it in their bed under the sofa where they like to hide - or sometimes I put it on the floor of the porch in the shade. Actually I have just purchased a second one so they have more options!

Garbage!! Mildly cool for a short period if your pet is big enough to cover the whole pad
So this mat's cooling gel is inadequately filled and smooshes away from your pet and leaves your pet laying on a sincerely mostly-empty pad. This isn't Some gel scoots away under pressure. . . This is so under-filled that laying on a portion renders it empty of the cooling gel. You have to lay across the entire thing - such that you would probably think the pad was too small for your dog.Am I explaining this well? When you step on something squishy but mostly empty the squishness moves out from under your foot. If you step on something mostly full that doesn't happen -- but that isn't this product. If you step on something squishy that is smaller than your foot the squishness tries to move out from under your foot but there is nowhere to go. That is the only way this product isn't garbage -- if it is sized considerably smaller than your pet so the gel is balanced below them instead of all squished to the areas with no weight on them. But! You also can't explain to your pet not to lay half on/half off so it may still suck even if you correctly buy "too small".The gel is Mildly cooling if you can get some of it distrusted under the dog. Thus, I say Garbage! Save your money for something with more than half a squirt of halfway cooling gel.
