Fodor's Thailand: with Myanmar (Burma), Cambodia & Laos (Full-color Travel Guide)

Over the years I have really enjoyed Fodor's travel guides. The information is compact, yet the guides provide a wealth of useful information for travelers. I purchased the new Thailand guide in anticipation of a trip to Thailand later this year. I had the previous version but wanted to get the most current version that was just released. The new guide is a lot thinner than the previous one. After a quick review of this guide, I realized that it was completely devoid of any information on the Northeastern part of Thailand (Issaan country). The maps show the cities in this part of Thailand but there is absolutely no mention or any guide information on any of them. We are not talking about a small part of Thailand; this area represents about a third of the entire land mass of Thailand. Missing is Phanom Rung, which is an absolutely stunning Khmer architectural site. Other than Phanom Rung, this is the only part of Thailand I have not visited in previous trips and I would like to travel to this part of Thailand to experience more of it in our upcoming trip. This guide is absolutely useless in this regard. Fortunately, I also have the Lonely Planet guide, which does include all of Thailand. I realize that this part of Thailand doesn't get a lot of tourists, but that is no reason to completely ignore it in a guide like this. For the information that is actually in this guide, I would give it 4 or 5 stars. But because it fails to include anything on roughly a third of the country, I think 2 stars is a rather generous rating.

Fodor's is always a good choice. Good information for things to be aware of, and where to go and what to see.

Just returned from a trip to Thailand and Cambodia, and this guide was very helpful, especially the historical perspective of many of the sites we visited. It also helped us plan the itinerary for many days of travel.
