Buena Vista Home Video Ella Enchanted (FF)

Campy, classic, really enjoyable
Char is kinda dumb but he's sweet. (sidenote: Also, he REALLY didn't have to take off his shirt cause like his wound was only on his arm (in the ogre scene). It was a tiny cut and he doesnt have to be a baby about it.) References are nice, random rock music is strange but u roll with it. Nothing like the book but thats ok. After all, who didn't want the whole cast to break into a rendition of "dont go breakin my heart?" Wesley is an evil king and thats an interesting moment when u realize this. Anne hathway at her best. She has an interesting sort of millenial medieval look the whole time and it kinda works. Ella is very headstrong and possibly a good role model for young moppets. Shes an activist! Wow! And also, Areida popped up in a random Psych episode! Whaddaya know! And bend it like beckham but ive never seen that so (in chief bogo voice) i dont care. Ella and char are sweet when u get into the movie more. They make a lovely pair. KAFUNGA! (evil stepmother says this when those dudes are like defending the king when ellas storming the coronation and stuff. (it might actually be "how vulgar" but i do not believe this.)) Mandy is pretty ok, book dude is always pretty nice, slanen does his thing so i guess thats cool or whatever. I think..... Heidi klum's in this movie! She appears to be a random giant whos in love w slanen the elf so i guess thats cool? I kid you not, i have literally seen this movie 30+ times and i JUST. REALIZED THIS. Its weird but just watch it. fun for the whole family! :-)

Enjoy the musical numbers
I suppose the easiest way out of the gift while Ella has it would be to change the meaning of the words that are directed as commands telling her what to do. A bit like protesters are trying to change the meaning of words from their original and true meaning to impure meanings these days. Sigh… Also a good reminder of a movie that not all people are pure in giving gifts and may instead give malicious gifts. Sometimes we have things forced upon us we never wanted in the first place just because the person doing the forcing wants to force additional social interactions with others in the future. Honestly, just do what Ella did and cut them out for eternity. We see time and again throughout the movie how the spell, so called a gift, targets tearing family apart. Ahhh, the evil Lucinda.Good characters, many of which have parallels in personality and temperament in real life. I had a roommate just like Hattie when I was in college. I didn’t tell her I was moving out until I had already physically moved some of my belongings to my new dorm room just after Halloween which was her birthday. Yeah I can be a douche. Tis another way to combat the ‘obedience’ gift/spell/curse/behavior, get the person so mad they do not talk to you. Long way of saying it is possible to pull an ‘Ella Enchanted’ maneuver in real life. This is one of the movie-book pairings where I like the movie far better than the book. It fits as a musical and I greatly enjoyed Anne Hathaway’s singing.

We finally added it to our digital collection
We've had this one on DVD for years, but we finally decided that, with all of our screens connected to streaming devices and only one with a working DVD player, we'd go ahead and get the digital copy.I've heard it playing in no fewer than three rooms.

Don't, please....just don't. It's for your own good.
I'm biased because I read the book first. How this modern-fantasy fusion monstrosity came to be the film representation of the broad magical world of Ella Enchanted will forever baffle me.The movie is purposefully corny and knows how bad the jokes their making are, yet still decides to make them. The protagonist prides herself on being a strong, independent person with values despite her curse, yet utterly fails to help herself out of a single problem (the most hilarious deviation from the book, as she was originally very capable). There's a lot of problems, but I value you your time, so I'll just say this - the jokes aren't as funny as they want them to be, and the leads are way more insufferable than they are meant them to be. If you want to watch a goofy satire-esque mess with the most basic and contrived message about being allowed to do what you want, this is your movie, and I hope you enjoy it. If you want to watch something with compelling characters and interesting plot, keep looking. Highly recommend the book though!

"Ella Enchanted"
This is one superbly spellbinding film! Anne Hathaway stars as the free spirited, spunky Ella, who is blessed with the virtue of obedience. Unfortunately though, this means that whenever she is called to obey, she must do it, making it so that it is also a very poorly constructed spell destined to get her into trouble (and this starts to take effect when her new stepmother Dame Olga and stepsisters Hattie and Olive start to dominate her a great deal). Finding that this is way too much, and that she would rather not have to be quite so obedient, Ella is determined to find her fairy godmother Lucinda who blessed her in the first place.A great, contemporary twist on the classic "Cinderella" tale, this time with a young woman who, in spite of her unfortunate predicament is incredibly funny and is still able to learn to stand up for herself as the film goes on, "Ella Enchanted" shows that all things that can prove to be both good and bad can be overcome. Joanna Lumley makes a darkly glamorous and nasty stepmother, while Lucy Punch is wonderfully eccentric as Hattie who is both Ella's real bully and the self professed wife to be of Prince Charmont, played by Hugh Dancy, who is forever chased by her and other wildly screaming girls (talk about obsessed)! He is just gorgeous; hard not to love him, especially when he's not being followed by them. Jim Carter, who seems to pop up in almost everything (and not just "Downton Abbey") gets a cameo as a man eating ogre; I could just tell it was him by the voice. I seriously love Vivica A. Fox as Lucinda because she's just so hip, sexy and has a real attitude problem. Put that next to Minnie Driver who plays yet another fairy who has a serious spell casting issue and is joined with Jimi Mistry as the voice of her disembodied lover, Heidi Klum as a well stylish giantess with a grudge on the Grimms Brothers and Cary Elwes as the totally weird and wicked Prince Regent Edgar, and you've got yourself a right one way wicked ticket to a magically captivating film. Also on the DVD is a whole set of Special Features, which are well cool, apart from perhaps the "Prince Charmont's Fan Club" game (in my opinion we see enough of his fans in the film altogether)! Aside from that though, there's a nice selection of extended and deleted scenes (check out the one where Hattie gets her comeuppance for having been so nasty to Ella)! The film featurette "Making The World Of Ella Enchanted" is terrific fun, as it covers all of the music that made its way into the film and some other information about it, and Kari Kimmel's music video "It's Not Just Make Believe" is well worth watching, and she's got an awesome voice too! I'm very happy with this film; it's full of non - stop action, magic and pure family entertainment, and I recommend it to anyone who loved Anne Hathaway in "The Princess Diaries"!

Well well well
I should warn anyone who has read the book "Ella Enchanted" by Gail Carson Levine, that this movie is VERY different. You barely recognize the story you may have read. That's not to say it's not a great movie. You get the basics, but there are completely new characters- such as Prince Char's Uncle, and his pet snake (yes I said snake) Heston. It's thrilling, there's action- even if it's a little sexist. I wouldn't recommend it for young children- there are some mushy moments- be warned. It's a funny movie too- there are some great moments. I would say it's a family movie, maybe 10 and up? Mostly because of the romance. It's not very scary at all- don't worry about that! The actors and actresses are perfect though, and there are some classic songs in there, enjoy- be warned, I'm not sure if boys would want to watch this if they're at the "mushy = yuck" stage!Hope this review helps!Jessica

What a brilliant movie!
I had never heard of this movie before until my husband discovered it for our 2 daughters to watch on BT Vision and since then we've watched it non-stop as it's absolutely brilliant! Fantasic storyline with excellent music throughout. As you can see we've had to purchase the DVD so that the kids can also watch it at their grandparents house because they don't have BT Vision!!! I highly recommend it for kids (and parents who'll enjoy it too!!!)
