ProActive Sports Groove Doctor - Retractable Brush and Groove Cleaner for Golf Clubs and Cleats

This product, or one identical to it, will always be on the outside of my golf bag. The retractable cord has held up to numerous rounds of golf, the groove tool is sturdy and well-built, and the bristles also work nicely. Like any wire brush, the bristles have worn over time. I expect that at my rate of play I will probably need to replace this tool after it's been on my bag for two years or so. That would be the case for any other wire brush: those things simply fray and wear down over time. The critical part to consider for wear-and-tear on an item like this is the retractable cord--if that wears out, the product will essentially be useless. (No one would use a brush and groove tool that dangles two or three feet from their bag or that drags on the ground.) Fortunately, after hundreds of pulls and retractions mine still works just fine. I can't lose it, it's always on the outside of my bag, and it's convenient to use: I think that makes this product an ace for what it aims to accomplish. This product does what is should do, holds up over time, and is a good value. Between this and a towel with some water I have all I need to keep my clubs in decent shape while I'm on the course.

In the past, the nylon/brass combo brushes I've used have had a Goldilocks issue: the plastic was too soft and the brass was too stiff. This brush seems to be just right. They feel somewhere between the old combo brushes I've used, and are soft enough that I don't worry about scratching club faces. On stuck-on dried dirt, the bristles are a bit soft. The spike on the backside of the brush does the trick though. I found wetting the club for a few moments before brushing makes the task easier and more effective. Perhaps my favorite aspect is the retractable hook. I've had brushes with clips in the past that didn't retract and they were a pain to use. This pulls out enough to brush with ease and retracts right back to the bag. On the so-so side, the bristles on the edges of the brush have bent out to the side. It's not really a big deal and seems to be a side effect of the relatively soft metal. Also, the spike is protected by a chintzy little plasticized rubber cap. I haven't lost it yet, but it seems like an inevitability. For those two issues I've knocked it down a star. Despite the minor issues, I love the brush. I'll be keeping this on my bag and I'd recommend it to any golfer.

The brush is a good size and feels very sturdy. The spike groove cleaner is just right. I think the retractable cord makes this an ideal tool to have clipped to your bag. The steel brush does a nice job of cleaning out the grooves of the club.

Most brushes have two sets of bristles, one harder/one softer. I see why after buying this one. The metallic bristles are too hard for some golf course uses. The little metal groove cleaner bit is good, but it is sharp and sticks out at a predatory angle no matter how you clip it to your bag, so be forewarned, and go for it with your gloved hand. Also, have seen this for 1/2 the price in retailers since then, so not the best deal here.

This is by far my favorite groove cleaner. The bristles are about the same as other types, but the pick really helps loosen the dirt. The best part is it's retractable. I literally use it after each shot.

I really like this product. The spike is perfect for hard stuck on mud and the brush works great. I really like that its on a retractable string. My only concern is the string is quite thin and might break. Other then that it was worth the money.

I bought this brush based on other user reviews and I am extremely disappointed. The bristles are too soft to get the mud and dirt out of the grooves and I always end up using my playing partners cheap brush from Walmart. Wast of money for sure.

Works much better with the retractable cord vs. non corded ones. Cord is strong as it got caught on another golf bag in the trunk and didn't break from the extra pull until realizing why the bag was hung up.
