The Contemporary Astrologer's Handbook (Astrology Now)

Excellent Astrology Book.
This is a great general book on astrology. It gives the basic/intermediate concepts of the Zodiacs, Planets, Astroids, Description of house with planets, and planetary combinations/aspects. I started reading this book with knowing little about Astrology. The book is not bias on what type of astrology charts to use or methods. There are no dates for the Zodiacs, so it is left to the reader to decide what they consider Aries, Taurus, etc. I have been studying from this book since I bought it about 5 months ago. I use it with all my other astrology books to check myself. I say this because certain authors are good at explaining other areas. So it is always a good idea to keep multiple books around when learning Astrology. You can learn to read personalities from the Natal chart with this book. Have patience when learning. The results are beautiful. This book is definitely contemporary.

Best astrology book ever!
I’ve read a lot of astrology books. I wish I had read this one first. It covers everything, accurately and coherently. Explanations are simple and straightforward. You won’t find a better general astrology book than this one. 5 stars all the way!

It's just not a Handbook.
I've only just purchased this book so my assessment might go up a point; but it's deceptively titled and its just not a hand book. Lets say your dealing with a Native with a Grand Cross, Uranus (3), opposing Mars(9), Pluto(1) Opposing the Sun(6) With appropriate Squares so you might want help interpreting the Mars, Pluto Sq. or the Sun 6th, Pluto Rising Opposition. This book will be of NO help to you; because there is no indexing at all. It is in no way a Handbook. What it is, is a long, and I expect very informed and Erudite Discussion of Astrology, and its underlying Philosophy as Sue sees them. I have no doubt that there are many great incites, to many placements and aspects. Her Aspects in Astrology book is brilliant. But you will have to take your own notes, and create your own book marks; because again NOTHING is indexed and even the Table of contents is Minimal help.I was looking for a Handbook along the Lines of Acker or Parkers; something I could keep on my Kindle as neither is available as an ebook. What I got should never have been titled a Handbook and I feel flat out ripped off.

Another excellent book by Sue Tompkins
Another excellent book by Sue Tompkins! She's an excellent author and has a great sense of humor that comes through in her writing. She's VERY through, and that is one of the things I like about her and her perspective. I can't wait for her next book! I highly recommend this one, its an enjoyable read, and she's very articulate, concise and clear, every astrologer, no matter what their level can gain from her insights.

A must for an astrologer bookshelf
I've been seriously studying astrology for the last twenty years and have read most of the books. This book by Sue Tompkins along with her other one Aspects in Astrology is a must to have on your bookshelf. Particularly 'Aspects in Astrology'. This one, 'The Contemporary Astrologers Handbook', has a lot of the basics and very good on the planetary energy house interpretations. I liked her house interpretation which is a departure from the usual cook book styles seen written on the same subject. She is a great writer it has helped me understand on deeper levels.

Great info
Seems to be great information for anyone interested in astrology, no matter what their experience level. I have only recently begun studying, so some of the information was a little advanced for me, but I skipped around and read what I understood, and then went back and studied parts I wasn't as familiar with.

It's a great book but..
Sue Tompkins is a great writer and I really had immense use of The aspects book. I was very excited about this one but then I discovered it's a beginners book.Energies are described in scenarios rather then pure meaning, which I am sure make them more understandable for many but truth is I was expecting something more from this book. It's a great book and a definitely must have in your shelf if you just began your journey in astrology, but if you are familiar with the symbolism this may not be for you.

Was not “new”
The book was fine. Good condition but it was not new. It had yellow highlighted sections throughout which someone had done (very neatly) with a yellow highlighter pen!
