Marriage and Morals

What an insightful man.
I rated this book 4 stars because at the beginning it lost my attention. I got to around page 60 and got tired of having to turn to a dictionary every few pages. This of course was due to my own limited vocabulary.BUT - once I continued reading, this book struck me many times with the need to quote it. It carries profound messages, some that resonate loudly today. The world needs more Bertrands, we need more people critically thinking, more people inquiring. If you venture to read this book, I do not think you will be disappointed, it's very insightful, open-minded, and makes very profound claims which are very rational. It's a breath of fresh air compared to all of the dogmatic, ignorant and closed-mindedness that we're confronted with today.

I dig it.
It's not a bad book considering how it was written before the major changes in the family dynamic. It's mind boggling how Russell was able to infer how families may be today. Even if everything he believed in doesn't hold true today, it's still something to think about and consider.

Listening to a genius
The book is a little outdated but, as it's true for all his works,it allows you the exciting experience of seeing the world through the insight of a genius.

smart and still relevant, historically interesting
Easy to read and follow, interesting ideas that are relevant even after a century. Even the things he discusses which are not relevant in our era, are historically interesting

A Very Interesting Read
This is the first work by Russell that I have read in its entirety and I have to say I found it thoroughly interesting and, on the whole, very easy to read. This book is as much a history as it is a book on ethics; Russell is keen to flush out every point he makes with historical evidence from a variety of cultures and time periods. Whether or not you agree with Russell (my personal level of agreement varied somewhat from chapter to chapter) you at least feel that each argument was well thought out and merits at least a pause for thought. The book is, in many ways, years ahead of its time, and much of what Russell predicts bears great relevance to today's society, perhaps even more so than when it was written.

Essential guide
I personally feel this book must be discussed in high schools everywhere. Bertrand Russell is a man who has changed my life, and continues to do so everyday. When it comes to seemingly commonplace topics love/sex/relationships/marriage everyone pretends to be an 'expert' and act and argue accordingly, resulting in vast amounts of silly literature. Bertrand examines them in his trademark logical/surgical manner and makes the case for selfless love. Notwithstanding the lack of knowledge in genetics and DNA at the time of writing, it certainly is a revolutionary piece of work.

A must read
Russell's wisdom is born from our humanity, our biological humanity, is rooted in our human composition, and for this reason it is true reality and it's success in great part in our hands. Russell is practical, not easy, but possible.
