Food: the Good Girl's Drug: How to Stop Using Food to Control Your Feelings

good for everyone with food issues
This was a pleasant read and good information. It was handy to have testimonials to read first-hand that there are other women who have very similar issues to mine. The one thing I found off putting is that this is aimed at younger women. I find that disappointing since this is definitely a universal issue affecting all ages, and so specifying a younger age was unnecessary and a bit derisive.

Changed my life, gave me HOPE
This book is incredible. As I read it, I felt as though I could have written every single word. I completely identified with Sunny. The thing with BED is that it has so much secrecy and shame attached to it, even more so I think than other types of eating disorders. Reading this book has shown me that I am NOT alone. Other people have gone through what I am going through, others have healed and recovered and live lives of health and vitality. There are fantastic tools provided here, as well as writing exercises. I originally read this on my Kindle, but has since purchased a paperback so that I can highlight and make notes and read sections with ease whenever I want to. I am so excited to have found this. I have never labeled my eating issues before, and even knowing what I am dealing with has completely changed my perspective. I almost cried with joy reading words that felt like they were already in my heart. I am ready to recover, ready to heal, and I will be using this book and other suggested books to get there. Because I deserve to live a happy healthy life, and lose my fear and addiction to food.

The Best Book of Binge Eating Disorder I've Read
I love this book. It is the best resource for those who struggle with Binge Eating Disorder (BED). There are so many books out there for anorexia recovery and bulimia recovery, but so few for BED sufferers. This book is written by a woman who wants to share her story and the tools she used to overcome her BED. As you read this you won't feel alone in your struggle. BED (and any eating disorder) can be incredibly isolating, so reading the stories of real women with BED in this book helps break off shame. The tools Gold gives are spot on. As a masters student in counseling I can say that her techniques and tools the same ones used in CBT, DBT, and ACT therapies. The book is formatted well so chapters alternate between stories, the authors personal testimony and research, and tools. Not only do you get personal testimonies, but you will hear from leading eating disorder experts in this book as well.

Great advice, but the writing could use some improvement.
The information and advice the author gives is great and has helped me in part understand some of the difficulties I've had confronting my feelings and compulsions with food. However, it reads like a high school paper, which at times was so distracting I wanted to throw the book out.

I'm finally understood!
All the books I've read in the past have basically discussed what Binge Eating Disorder is. I've never liked those because they just tell me things I already know. I love this book because the author has experienced this disorder herself. She uses her own experiences, other girl's experiences, as well as insight from those who are trained in this area. It gives details about what the disorder is, reasons why people have it, and things you can do to help fight it. I have never felt so understood in my life. Almost everything she talks about I could relate to. I finished this book in a day and intend on reading it again. I highly recommend this book for those who are suffering from this eating disorder and to those who are close to someone who is struggling with it.

Gave me the tools to stop binging!
A life saving resource for healilng from binge eating and achieving a healthy body. Binge Eating Disorder is a deep rooted compulsion shared by many bright and high achieving people. It is painful and demoralizing. Up until now, I feard I was powerless and out of control. Sunny's book assures you that it's not lack of will power or self control that is the problem, but a lack of better tools for coping. This book teaches you to pinpoint your triggers and how to deal with the REAL issues prompting you to binge. "The good girls drug" has given me the tools to take control of my eating habits and wellbeing. A compassionate and proactive book from a fellow binge eater in recovery.

didn't really like it
Unfortunately I have to say I really didn't like this book. If you've read anything about emotional eating, there was nothing really new, different or insightful here. Not that there has to be necessarily; sometimes just hearing something in a particular way can make a difference, and she has an easy friendly approachable style. But this book in my opinion was smoothly anecdotal without specifics/solutions to a fault. I applaud anyone's efforts to make a difference and if she has for someone else, there you go. It just fell flat for me.

Good read and insightful
I found this to be a very good read. Very insightful and had lots of examples of other people's journeys. It had a great self-reflection tool at the end of every chapter.
