Daniel: A Reader's Guide Paperback – February 1, 2005

A readable, accessible yet thorough historicist perspective. I appreciate the clarity and detail. It is written from an SDA perspective, which in my view clouds the treatment of certain passages (e.g. there is quite a bit of discussion of a heavenly temple, which is treated as being literal, as well as a "preadvent judgment," of which I am unconvinced scripturally). However, there is always room for disagreement when there is so much to agree with. Historicism is the all-but-lost truth about Biblical prophecy for which the SDA church has been an ark since the great deceptions of the early 1800's which culminated in the widespread use of the very deceptive Scoffield Reference Bible. To be able to access the best of Reformation scholarship through this SDA tradition is a true privilege. I also have high praise for Dr. Benjamin G. Wilkinson and Dr. Ranko Stephanovic, as well as Dr. Walter Veith, although I am not nor have I ever been associated with the SDA church.

Excellent book for a student of prophecy!

This is an excellent book! If you are interested in the book of Daniel, this is a must-read!

One of the best books regarding Daniel out there. William Shea knows what he is talking about, and if you want a simply yet good read this is the book for it.

This book was a great help to understanding the book of Daniel for me. I appreciated how Shea started the book off with the academic criticisms of the validity of the book of Daniel, and then followed through in very precise detail how those criticisms fall short or are no longer valid, etc. I also appreciated how Shea worked through the chapters of Daniel. He approached the explanation of the chapters using their literary structure according to how a Hebrew in Daniel's day would have.It's not a terribly long book, but it is a decently deep read... I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a clearer historical understanding of Daniel as well as a good take on prophetic interpretation from the historicist perspective...

Very informative. The author picks apart each verse and analyzes it in a way that can be understood by the layman. I love history, so reading the historical facts behind each of the verses of Daniel was pretty fascinating to me.Some of the interpretations of Daniel 11:25-45 seemed a bit of a stretch, but then again, these verses are very difficult to understand, and I haven't found anyone else come up with a better explanation.
