I've been collecting for 50+ years and have a few knives I really like, this is my instant favorite
Stunned at the level of quality, I've been collecting for 50+ years and have a few knives I really like, this is my instant favorite! I'' not writing this for knifestyle or you people (ha ha 😀) just sharing-I'm an old guy, lefty, and not so much a knife spaz as much as if I like it I'll buy it, big fan of Hitachi blue steel, D2, 1095 carbon and Japanese craftsmanship.I don't write this stuff unless I'm pretty impressed, it may not be your cup of tea but the cool factor is there,Seki City Japan, 800 years of blade excellence, carbon fiber scales, D2 steel, modified Wharncliffe blade etc.I looked it over very closely and it is flawless - the same features on a custom is an easy $500-1000, there is a similar Marfione for $2000 (I know, apples and oranges...) so after looking it over I put it back in its cool zippered and lined pouch, set it aside, came on here and bought 3 more (I also collect bmw's🙃)We'll see what the next 3 look like but if the same guy finishing this knife in a Seki bladesmith shop does it, I've got some stuff I want done 👌😃Rainy day in the country review,

Fun Knife
This is definitely a different and cool knife. I was a little hesitant to buy it because the country of origin (Japan, China?) is unclear and I couldn't believe you could get a D2 blade with carbon fiber scales for under $40 delivered. However, my curiosity got the best of me and I ordered it - and I've got to say, I'm happy I did. Per what many reviewers have said, the fit, finish and materials are outstanding. The wharncliffe blade is centered and sharp, the scales are flush and handsome, the linear lock is solid, the action is smooth with the right amount of tension, the opening mechanism (friction folder lever) is different in a cool traditional Japanese way, and, importantly, there's a lanyard hole. Why is the lanyard hole important? Because this allowed me to add a suspension clip (see photo) that actually makes the knife EDC'able for me. This clip is a little tricky to put on, but makes the knife hang vertically in my pocket out of the way (it fits in my jeans pocket with my iPhone 7 no problem) and the pointy opening lever is not poking or tearing up my pocket. Although I'm not sure it's D2 steel despite what's printed on the blade, it tears through cardboard boxes without difficulty and seems to retain its edge so I'm happy. I've been having a lot of fun with this knife, so at the current price point if you're at all interested in it, I recommend pulling the trigger and ordering a suspension clip to go along with it

Just... No.
Lets start off with what's wrong with this knife, then we can move to the positives.1. It's not a carbon fiber handle, it's a carbon fiber laminate, that's a nice way of saying "a sticker" over some plastic handles.2. The blade is so thick and the height is so low, there isn't enough time in the hollow grind for the edge to get thin before it gets to the main bevel. I measured the edge angle to be about 38° dps (degrees per side). To give you some perspective, most pocket knives are 18°-22° dps and your kitchen knives are 13°-17° dps. While you will be able to get the apex of the knife "sharp", because it'll be so thick behind the edge, all it'll ever do is wedge things apart.3. The knife is advertised as a "Higonokami". The Nagao Higonokami is a traditional knife that works with friction, made simply and from thin blade steel to make it an excellent slicer. This knife is very much not one of these because it: a) has a lock, b) has thick blade stock, c) is not made simply.4. The liners inside the knife had visible rust on them.5. The interface between the lockbar and the blade wasn't well milled, meaning there was play up and down as well as side to side.I sent this back, it's bad. It looks impressive at first glance but just don't do it. There are so many good knives on Amazon at $40 and below. The Tangram Santa Fe TG3002A1 is making big waves right now at the $30 mark and has a similar blade shape to this, and is a vastly better knife.
