Joy Division + New Order: Decades

A nicely written and informative book
Took this on holiday and it was an excellent way to work through the catalogue of tunes that Joy Division and New Order have produced. Many interesting facts and details that fans of a certain age will either already know or have suspected. Read a chapter then listen to the songs, the book tries to keep to a chronological sequence but towards teh end the end with all the remixes and re-releases etc it becomes a bit muddled. I would recommend it and will read it several times I am sure and also use as a reference book from time to time. Who would have thought the Killers got their name from listening to New Order!

Decent but missed opportunity
This is well produced and a pleasant read, but misses the chance to be the ultimate book on the bands. There are no photos, for example, of the childhoods of the band members; and the one photo of 'Bernard' circa 1974 is not a wise touch as it shows a child when in fact Sumner would have been 18 at that point. By far the most irritating aspects are the inaccuracies: it was Morris, not Hook, who was driving the van when Ian had his first fit; it was Sumner, not Curtis, whose hand was injured by a bottle. This, to me, ruins the book, and I have yet to complete it. Some of the statements, too: Ian's epilepsy coupled with his band mate's lack of emotion is described as 'a fatal aligning of the planets.' To sum up, a half decent intro, but a missed opportunity. I was expecting something of the standard of Kevin Cann's works on Bowie; but this doesn't hit the mark. Lovely photos, but the text lets it down.

Looks nice but that’s about it!
It is a beautiful looking book , but I’m only 1/4 of the way through it and there so many inaccuracies, very poor journalism, A very disappointing book, Stephen Morris’s autobiographies are a far more worthwhile purchase

You Got Book Technique
In 1985 just turned a teenager, Blue Monday was played every friday night for everyone to chicken dance too before the smooches, I swapped my White Lines 12" for Sub Culture 12" with my sisters boyfriend....and the soundtrack to my life for the next 4 decades was innevitable....so onto the book, fantastic quality hardback with no dust cover which is preferable, quality shiny print paper used inside, which bring the amazing pictures to life, this is a fast paced book to read touching on all that matters as the trials & tribulations of JD & NO pan through the Decades album by album detailed very well, this is a must for all fans and entry level fans its that easy a read, finished it in 3 sessions....think I will read Bernards book now that I have had sat on the shelf since the book signing 7 years ago lol....

Uma biografia muito ilustrada com história da cena de Manchester e como as bandas surgiram e se tornaram lendárias. Ótima compra
