Only book to read while waiting for your baby.
When we received our prenatal diagnosis a Developmental Pediatrician friend of ours recommended not reading anything but this book. How greatdul we were for that advice. This was a positive and uplifting book with tons of knowledge sharing. The suggestions and websites suggested made it the perfect read and I highly recommend it. As a matter of fact when we were in the NICU, another baby with DS was born. This is the book we recommended they start reading.

This is the one!
This is the most current, inclusive and thoughtful resource book on Down syndrome I've ever read. It's well organized (from pre-birth through adulthood) and very easy to read. This is the perfect book for health care providers to provide to their patients after delivering a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome. It includes all the necessary subjects and also provides information on how to get connected with important organizations and parent groups (this was the most valuable part of my journey as a new parent of a child with Down syndrome). Please get or recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about Down syndrome. I promise they will thank you for it.

This book is so easy to read and I love that it gives short summaries of different topics- stages and medical conditions. The personal stories make it very relatable. I have turned to this book more than once when I was wondering about something that was going on with my little one.

You found your manual to navigating this new cool life!
Looking for a one-stop shop to help you navigate life as a new parent to a munchkin with Down syndrome? Look no further. This super well written guide will walk you through everything from the diagnosis (what the heck is Ds and what does this all mean?) to your newborn and what those first days, weeks and months look like as you start this incredible journey in this exclusive community of other parents just like you. It moves on to the toddler years, adolescence, young adulthood and more. Without pushing any agenda, this guide shares first-person accounts and experiences by parents on your same journey, oftentimes sharing differing choices on the same topic (therapies, schooling, etc) yet never suggesting how you should best parent your own child. Kudos to Jen and Mardra for capturing the essence of what it's like to truly live in this awesome world, a journey with your child as the tour guide.

some common characteristics of children with Down Syndrome like sounding congested
I received a birth diagnosis four months ago and was searching for information. I was connected to DSDN by an acquaintance and to one of the authors of this book. Jen Jacob. I have not read the entire book (I still get overwhelmed) but there are tidbits that have already helped me. For example, some common characteristics of children with Down Syndrome like sounding congested, blocked tear ducts, etc. This isn't something that I found when searching for symptoms - word to the wise - don't search for symptoms on the internet - those are pretty gloomy. The stories from parents that have been there and the feeling of someone that knows how you feel comes across on the pages. I highly recommend this book.

It’s ok.
This book was just ok. It doesn’t go into great detail and provides pretty basic info. I have read other books about Down Syndrome that are better.
