Solid, Large and Sharp EDC/Vehicle Knife
The media could not be loaded. As a long time EDC of SOG Flash Tanto, this upgraded version of the SOG assisted open pocket is excellent. Everything about it is large for an EDC. But since I lost one of my original Flash Tantos due to an unplanned emergency commercial flight, I wanted to replace it with another SOG with other options. This Trident is very snappy on the open and smooth on the close. I can easily open/close one-handed. The unlock slide is low profile compared to Flash. It took a few minutes to get the feel of it but it feels natural. My Flash may be a bit high profile actually. The D2 cryo blade has a beautiful drop point geometry and will function well as both a slicer and poker. Absolutely no lateral play on the nicely centered blade hinge. Great lockup both open and closed with safety on. The safety location is unique to me like a Mossberg shotgun on top vs. side slider but plays well with the ambidextrous design. Edge is razor sharp and has a great polished bevel with no defects. I will strap this in my car for emergency use for me or rescue of another trapped motorist since it has dual glass breaker points and a seatbelt/line cutter. Not sure how well that feature will work with modern seatbelts though. Out off the box, I’m very happy with the purchase and is a decent value in today’s dollars for the quality of components, fit and finish. Recommended for anyone who is familiar with these types of knives and/or wants a good sized one like this. I like the look too, fwiw. ;)

great knife
Great knife and looks slick with the red accents. My only criticism is that unlike previous generations of the Trident the back is open which allows lint and stuff to more easily collect inside and I think doesn't look quite as cool. The knife arrived with a really tight action and required too much force for me to open comfortably, so I loosened it with a Torx bit until I was happy with it. I saw one review where the person talked about flipping the knife open and closed for hours and hours and laughed, it definitely was uncomfortably stiff for me as well. I've owned a number of SOG Tridents and they last long enough that at some point you'll likely want to pop it open anyway for a deep clean.

Nice replacement
I carried the SOG flash II tonto blade for the last 5 years but haven’t been able to keep a reliable edge after so much use. This is a nice upgraded replacement for a left handed person.Fortunately I have less to worry about while putting this in my pocket that the right handed folks, but it would be great to get an option (without) or cover for the seatbelt cutter because it can slice your pants very easily.I sanded down the handle texture below the pocket clip so it will slide easily into my pants, but beyond that- no complaints!!!

Love The Spring Assist
I've owned 3 of these (I lost 2) I love the quick action of the spring assisted blade. It has a really strong lock and the texture on the handle is perfect and won't slip with wet hands. If I had to give it a criticism it would be the seat belt cutting feature I feel like you lose some strength in the handle. Other than that, this knife is perfect

Design flaws
I have been caring this knife everyday for about a month and a half. It has some of my favorite features and Lease feet favorite combined into one knife. Starting with the things I like, the blade geometry is excellent, but that's maybe just personal preference. Edge retention is about what you would expect for a knife in this price point. No complaints. The handle is very comfortable. The stippling is aggressive, but feels almost too sticky. I have had some trouble adjusting my grip to close the knife and did manage to catch the end of my finger in the blade causing a pretty decent slice. The spring assist is very positive, almost violent. I have had the knife open in my pocket on two occasions. Leading to getting stabbed while trying to fish my wallet out of the same pocket. The thumb studs on the blade are large and easy to manipulate even while wearing gloves, but I believe they snagged on something and the blade assist did the rest. It's almost like SOG was aware of this issue so they put a blade lock, but that also has given me issues when the blade doesn't open when I want it to only to realize the blade lock got bumped on.But by far the most frustrating feature is the strap cutter slot. It is right at the base of the pocket clip and gets hung up on my pocket every time I try put the knife away. I developed a technique where I would lay my index along the back of the knife preventing my pants from Catching in the slot and pushing away from my body to direct the clip into place. But the aggressive stippling makes this difficult. In summary my work requires that I'm climbing in and out of different pieces of equipment a dozen times a day and often working in small spaces. I no longer feel safe carrying this knife in my pocket at work. Not really sure what SOG was thinking here.
